I did both. Brought the Kick down by lowering my low bump on the Drum Buss. And boosted the Bass 3dB. I may bump that up a little bit more. Going to leave the mix like this for a bit and see how it settles.

Haha yep you have robust bass in your tracks MY. Great thumping that just makes you want to move.

I may send this off to get mastered at the end of it all. How's the overall volume? Do you think it's loud enough right now for marketing?

Sounds great mate, honestly, I think you nailed it now and whatever comes after it's really matter of ear taste. Like me like when the bass is more if your face, sitting supporting the overall space that the music is floating but thats my style haahahahaha

Kudos DeyBwah... you got here a very beautiful song that could feature of course in a Movie Soundtrack.

Thanx for sharing , if anything, don't hesitate!!!

Cheers!!

The mix is singing just the way I want.

Thanks for listening everyone! This is my first tune I'm marketing, so that'll be my theme for a while I reckon.

I have a strong background in web marketing and web development(was my day job) so I'll be starting some threads and just keeping people updated on what I'm trying and how it's going as well as asking around for advice of course as I'm new to marketing myself, and in the arena of music marketing specifically.

Namely, I'll start by choosing a service from one listed in this article.

http://www.garagespin.com/2009/03/09...sic-on-itunes/

I'm leaning towards Reverbnation CDBaby or Nimbit.

Lovely track! Love that spacey 'aahhiiiiaammm in a baaaaad place' hook. Nice contrast in terms of space/sounds/everything. Was suprised the first time I heard it.

How'd you get that wide stereo guitar sound? Double tracking I"m guessing? Or is there something else?

The mix could be a little louder than this I suppose, but I like it the way it is.

Overall - I love this track.

Hey DeyBwah!!!

I re-listened the song yesterday again mate and guess what, surprisngly enough, this morning I woke up and found myself humming the melody of your song and I suddenly stopped and asked myself "Which song is this?". Honestly for a moment I was like where this melody comes from? And Voila, I reckon right after and for me it's a great sign. So follow the instinct and push that track mate.

And yes indeed, it's more then time to send it for Mastering buddy.. where are you planning to Master the song? As for the overall volume, I think it's perfect, the more room you leave for the M.Engineer the better it is as you already know this. So i say, move on to the next level

Keep up updated with the Marketing side of it.

Again, great job and looking forward to see hwo all this unfold for you and this song.

All the best and wish you all a great weekend with prayers to #Japan

Peace!!!!

Thanks for listening Sam!

The main part of the stereo sound is coming from double tracked hard panned acoustic guitars on the chorus. I got a great suggestion from kindafishy regarding the panning. I had the verse guitar panned hard left, but he suggested to try saving the hard pan for the chorus for more stereo contrast, while doing a medium pan for verses to still keep that single acoustic guitar off-to-the-side sound intact. Thanks kindafishy!

The other stuff has to do with a lot of subtle automation to create a greater contrast from verse to chorus.

I'm raising the guitar verb by like 5dB via automation on the choruses, as well as adding an entire additional reverb track for routing, to take up as much of the stereo field as I can.

I highly recommend Zen and the Art of Mixing by Mixerman. It's a great book that goes beyond just technical explanations and sort of washes your brain with a refreshing viewpoint on mixing.

Hope that helps, thanks again for the wind in my sails.

Dude! That is RAD! Haha! Mission accomplished, now you'll never get that chorus out of your head. Mwahah! >

Definitely planning on getting this mastered soon, but to be honest, I'm getting ahead of myself by researching outlet services lol. I haven't ever had a track sent off for mastering. I'll be doing some research on that end this weekend. Do you have any recommendations? I remember you mentioned Abbey Road Studios. Sounds "expensive".

Thanks MY!

Just an update, I'm sending this track off for mastering tomorrow. Should have it back by the end of the week.

Late to the party but I really like this song, great work. The voice sounds great and the "musical picture" is pretty wide with good depth.

I like the way you mixed it, the mix fits the "emotional positioning" of the song.

Those high pitched melodic vocal lines near the latter parts are really sweet. I wonder how they'd sound stacked up really dense with about 6-8 real takes spread across the stereo field for an almost choir-like "lift"? Really nice mix though.

How does this hold up in mono? Good work man. More please.

Thanks Lawrence!

Emotional positioning, you nailed it my friend. Was going for a very specific approach for this track.

Although the track is very simple in arrangement, there is a whole slew of production behind the curtains. LOTs of automation, layers and layers of effects tucked away in the very back. Little Easter eggs all over the place that you can't really hear as clearly with Soundcloud's butcher knife compression.

In fact, the last chorus with that melodic line onward does indeed have a good 4+ harmonies... tucked away neatly.

I used to mix purely on headphones about 5 years ago because my production style has always been to layer things in subtly and the cans really help to do it with surgical precision. I'm REALLY digging my new Focal CMS monitors, applied my usual style of subtle mixing but using these monitors, it has been a delight.

I'm glad you enjoyed the track Lawrence, I always see your voice in the forums and am humbled at your response.

Didn't see the mono question, it holds up nice in mono. The D-box has a nice mono switch that I check every once in a while. Also my mastering engineer made sure to check mono as well.

Working on a new tune... stay tuned!(pun intended)

Great track man!! Love the mood amd melody. I understand the use of autotune stylistically, but it would be interesting to hear this with a raw vocal.
Excellent.

Dig it! Remnding me of Coldplay.

What's your vocal fx chain?

What's your vocal fx chain for tracking?

PS I'd lose the drums entirely until 0:19.

Thanks for listening Henge!

To be honest, the AT use was the hardest decision for me on this track. Kept me up many a nights, but I decided to go that route for commercial purposes. If you want to hear the raw vocal, you'll have to check me out live haha.

Glad you dig it Guncho!

Vocal FX chain is just ReaEQ on the verse vox, routed via sends to a CSR Plate and CSR Hall on their own respective tracks.

And I automated an EchoBoy track for the delay effect.

The Chorus Vox FX chain is once again, just ReaEQ on the main track, routed to 3 tracks via sends that hold CSR Hall, Nebula Verb, and EchoBoy.

Vocal chain for tracking was just my NT1A(modded) > Great River > Buzz Essence comp.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

just registered here so I could post a reply:

Very nice song indeed, and that chorus is absolutely beautiful. You have a very nice falsetto.
Was thinking about Charlie Winston when I first heard your song.

Been tied up with a brutal custody battle but here's the next tune I'm just about to finish up. http://soundcloud.com/deybwah/the-ke...gh-arrangement

Ouch! Doesn't sound very pleasant at all. I hope it all works out for you.

Again, in this new tune of yours, you show us you have a very good melodic sense, which to me is abut the most important aspect of song-production/writing. The melody is the foundation, everything else is just decor.
I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I first heard it, having listened to the other track a few zillion times, so I guess I was expecting more of the same. This is not good nor bad, just the way it is.

What I love about the first track is it's rawness (is that a word?), if you know what I mean; the stripped-down and limited production, not a lot of effects and so on. This is right up my alley by the way.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing more from you, whatever it shall be. And good luck with the legal stuff.

Thanks Ellastur.

This song was therapy for me during hard times. Happy to say, I no longer need it. Hopefully it will be therapy for others as it was for me.

Doing my best and leaving the rest to the Universe.

Melody is absolutely a strong driving force in a song; I fully agree!

And I'm glad you were surprised, because that's is precisely what I'm going for. I gave up my dream to perform as touring artist a few years ago. It's just impractical being a family man. I've been channeling my energy towards producing and it fits my personality a little bit more, allowing me to extend beyond just a single genre or "brand".

I love the rawness as well. I really had to focus on keeping everything simple as that is the first track I produced after I built my studio. It has been a long journey and I'm happy to say, I'm done lusting for gear. I have what I need now and can focus on creating music.

My next track will be another distinct contrast in what I've produced. Thanks for listening.
