Default "Insert Virtual Instrument on New Track" Action Behavior

Is there any way to customize the defaults for the "Insert Virtual Instrument on New Track" action? Didn't see anything in Project > Track/Send Defaults.

I understand that you can use Track Templates to do the same thing (I do), it just seems odd to me that I couldn't find a way to customize something in Reaper

Not that I know of. But what exactly do you want to change or customize in this case?

In general, although it might be possible to make a Custom Action for inserting at customized Track, it's probably easier or faster to just make and use Track Templates.

In my case I want to make sure all virtual instrument tracks only listen to Channel 1. So I made a Track Template, assigned it to Shift+I, and replaced this in the drop down menu.

I guess I just found it odd that the 2nd option by default in the Insert menu is "Insert Virtual Instrument" but there aren't any corresponding settings for it.

Yeah. As far as I know 'Insert Virtual Instrument' is a predefined Action (without any option to change its parameters).

Maybe the Action SWS/S&M: Set selected tracks MIDI input to channel 1 might also be useful to you, but I guess using Track Templates is probably the easier option in this case ...

Just an additional thought:

If you're mainly working with MIDI Tracks, maybe setting up the default Record Config under Project > Track/Send Defaults with Input MIDI > Channel 1, Monitor Input and Record arm enabled might also be a useful option for your workflow.
