I just saw this Shemp. I probably won't get a chance before Monday, but I'll try then to listen to a couple of others and see what I hear.

Late to the party... It was the other guys fault... I swear! I hadn't touch a DROP of booze... anyway...

AWESOME! You guys improve with every tune. Your previous efforts were already rockin' but seems a bit more polished to me.

Fantabulous job! *two thumbs up*

Not generally my style at all anymore (my metal phase was in the early-mid 80s), but THIS kicks some serious ass.

Great rhythmic riff and variations...gotta love the synth...adds a touch of that Carouselambra-esque Zep vibe to it. I have a hard time getting past the vocals...they're appropriate for the style, I just don't LIKE the style. Kickass writing, though.

Two thumbs up, and a vigorous head-bang

OWWWWWW, My neck!

I've listened to it a few times now and I really like it. It sounds epic and ultra tight.

I'm not going to claim to understand the vocal style (I'm too old) but there are some good hooks in this and the whole thing just works.

As usual shemp's guitar playing is spot on. It has a controlled intensity that avoids excessive widdlyness - if that makes sense

I haven't trolled this board in a while, but I had to post on this.

I really like the song, guys. I can only listen through my headphones right now and can't experience the full sonic range (ie no low end) but I'm really digging it, and I'm a snob when it comes to metal. As someone else said, the first few songs you guys did didn't really click with me, but this is one I'll listen to again.

Badass.

Shemp,

Finally got around to giving a listen to a few other FTA songs on Reverbnation. The fizz is present consistently, and it seems almost certainly to come from the use of the crashes. Over the course of a measure or so there's a kind of cumulative effect that plateaus. Since others apparently don't hear it, you might want to just chalk it up to my speakers.

Fargin' AWESOME!!!

However, some in that genre may be thrown off by the "singing" and "melodic" content.

You should get some screen capturing software and do some YouTube tutorials on how you got it sounding so produced.

The Widdler (a popular electronic producer) did that, and it was just as much publicity for him as it was service to fellow producers.

Anyway, it just has that sparkle that other recordings don't...it sounds like it came out of a professional studio (and maybe it did, for all I know). I don't know if it's your means of mic'ing your instruments...the acoustics of the environment in which you're recording, monitoring, plug ins you're using, etc...I'd love to get my stuff sounding that produced.

We started recording a lot of my old band's stuff (user name on SoundCloud is DJEDI296 if you wanna look it up) for the fun of it (in the vein of Ozma, Saves the Day, etc), and I'd love to get it sounding that good.

Kudos, again.

This one is REALLY different from FTA's previous songs!
The only thing I don't like is the fade out at the end. Should end like a f$^&*g shot between the eyes ;-)

I would love to do some screen captures of mixdowns, but alas - my PC is super outdated. So much so, that I can't even play the full mix of this song, because my PC doesn't have enough horsepower - I had to render it each time I made a change! Hopefully someday soon I will remedy that situation and get the i7 I've been eyeing up!

Interesting that you mention mic'd instruments, because in this mix there are none - it's all amp sims, IR's and drum samples, and the mix was done at my home! The "polish" is all in the mix - my mastering chain is just a buss comp and limiter!

Thanks for the kind words! Really - you're too kind, because I hate my mixes!!! LOL!

Thanks Jax! Yeah... The fade out has been done in a few of our songs already, but witht he vox repeating like that, I think it fits.

Next song will not have a fadeout - that much I can commit to!

Sounds like we share the same 'studio', my man. Does yours have laughing children and video games always being played in the background as well?

Great work!

If you don't mind telling then I would like to know how the vocal was recorded and how its been processed -especially the 'screaming parts'

Thank you

Hi! The vocals were recorded with an SM57, and processing was pretty straight forward. Compression, EQ, and then sent out to reverb and delay!

Thanks for the listen!

The effects mentioned above were added by Chris.
When I recorded my parts they were in fact done with the SM57.
I ran it into PODFarm and used my "GIGAWATT" vocal chain preset which is:
Noise gate into the "Rat" distortion pedal emulation. I think it may be called "classic distortion" or something like that.
The distortion sttings are very light. Just enuff to warm it up a tad without giving it too much of a digital quality.

Hey man! Thank you so much!

Mixed and mastered by me. SSD and DFH for the drums, and Lecto for the guitars with some synths here and there. Oh, and bass was PodFarm.

If you have any specific questions, just lemme know!

Wow, just look how many days this has been going, that says something.

Yeah, I also wanna hear all three of your general worklow...uh.. schedules?. Habits, perhaps a sorta history or timeline of the project and how it came
to be what it is.

How did the idea of the song come about, what came first, lyrics, guitar, a
drum beat that inspired the riff, perhaps.

Anyway, awesome song, awesome skills, awesome production and a GOOD SONG.

oh, yeah. I sorta think you could use a little more dynamic swell between the synth in the beginning and the initial kick in of the rest of the
band. Only cause I think it'd give you a bigger sounding intro, and give slightly more girth to the guitars and drums.

Not that I have any room to criticize, you don't see any original tracks by me posted on here, but I'd be almost disrespectful if
I didn't give you guys a little feedback. I know how you like to hear back what others are hearing. Thanks

Hmm, Workflow... Well we all use REAPER and Line-6 interfaces. One of us writes a riff, usually an almost finished song and we email to to the others. If we all like it, we persue the song, either leaving it be or suggesting changes, emailing clips of the modified song, etc. Then all rhythm parts (drums, guitar, bass) are re-recorded. Then the song is put out there for soloing and vox. We then record the solos and the vox and send modified projects to Chris who does all the mixing.

The project spawned from a thread started by pattonfreak1 asking about guitar tone in the Lounge. He posted some clips and we all commented. Then Chris posted a short clip and pattonfreak added some screaming vocals to. Then I took it and threw on some solos and extended it using cut/paste. All unsolicited, just for fun. Then off line we decided to finish the song and it became Steamroller. Then the other songs spawned.

For more history, search this collab forum for "The Freeze Tag Assassins" and you'll find the other 5 song threads. Also the songs are here:
http://www.reverbnation.com/thefreezetagassassins

And also, none of us have ever met, nor even talked on the phone (YET!). This is all done thru email.

Rhythm guitar and drum beat are usually written first by one of us. Pattonfreak has this un-canny ability to write lyrics and vocals at the drop of a finished song so, so far it's always been song first and pattonfreak fits in the vocals after.

This is just awesome. If there are any problems, they're way beyond my admitedly limited ability to detect, so I don't have any useful feedback. But... you know... high-five n' stuff.

Cheers everyone! Really glad you all liked this song!

The one thing I will say about the history / scheduling / workflow is: Writing music has never been so easy. I was in a semi-pro band for years and years, but there was always so much tension when writing new material because our musical tastes were so insanely different. That is not the case at all in the FTA, because we are all very like minded when it comes to music, and there are not many cases where we disagree. It's really been a very fun and rewarding project to be a part of and, we've all become really good friends too which is definitely a bonus.

Anyway... In other news, I have a new bass coming on Monday which I have already dubbed "The Punisher", just for point of reference. If you ever hear me talking about how I recorded some crazy ass shit with "The Punisher", you'll know what I'm talking about. LOL!
