Default Routing Multi out Plugins

I know, there is an action for inserting a midi instrument, and it will do all the routing for me, but, let's say all I want to do is just add one track to a plugin I already have been using.

How would I go about that?

I feel like I've done all the right things, but I am doing something wrong for sure.

In the Arranger:
--add the new track
-- click the [io] button for the old track
-- increase the number of channels for the old track
-- add a Send to the new track
-- set the Audio routing to, e.g. 3+4 => 1+2

In the plug-in:
-- route some audio to the additional output (how that is done depends completely on the plug-in).

hmmmm.. I tried that, and it didn't work some reason. Ended up doing an add instrument thing, and just dragging everything i needed over to it.

Which part didn't work? It was OK here.

DS has put you in the right direction but it totally depends on the VSTi you're trying to add output too. Which particular plug are you doing this with?
