Not posible to heal splits in item with empty takes

There is always some empty takes when I record vocals. But I don't need them so I have "Display empty takes" and "Allow selecting empty takes" disabled in Options->Take behavior. Set and forget.
The problem is that "Heal splits" just doesn't work if the item contains empty takes.
I found out this only because opened project in portable reaper where "Display empty takes" was enabled. Now I know what it was, after so many years
