I've heard only good things about it, but haven't tried it yet.

I tried using it a while back but it was really unintuitive. I might have to dig deeper with it. I'm using Kontakt now and it's also quite unintuitive.

RS5K is a chore to use for multi-sample single-hits.

I used it to build a drum kit a while back, multi layered samples from the analogue drums big mono kit from memory.
I remember it taking a while to get my head around how it worked as it was different from what i'd used before ( Kontakt & shortcircuit ) but in the end it worked very well ( but no round robin ) for drums, but that's all i did with it.

Overall i thought it was good, especially for free, the paid version has extended features naturally, round robin etc and its fairly cheap from memory
but i didn't buy it because i have Kontakt.

I think there is a new version since i used it so it could be even better now.

Cheers

TX16Wx Pro has been pretty much my only software sampler for years now. I've used it mostly to make and play multilayer drumkits and for some sfz libraries like Sonatina SO and Virtual Playing Orchestra. I have also used it for some old Akai AKP and Logic EXS files. Along with the old RGC audio sfz it has also been the only VSTi which was capable for portable sfz use, something e.g. sforzando couldn't do.

It has some quirks, but offers quite a lot of features. For my personal use, the best amongst the free/moderately priced samplers and sample players. Open end file format is a nice idea and gives some future proof. But afais, that might also prevent it from becoming a serious choice for some commercial sample library developers.

New V3 seems like yet another step forward, but I went back to V2 the moment I realized some older multilayer instruments were not loading/playing correctly. I'll have to check if the latest updates have corrected that, but I'm fine even with v2.

If you're into free ware, don't mind put a lot of work into it => yes.
I want a simple, quick workflow, can pay a few bucks for what I want => no.

I have a question about TX16Wx: is it normal operation that you have to hold the mouse left button to play the what I created.

It's very complex. If you don't need all that complexity, Grace is a good alternative:

Keep hoping someday they'll make an OS X version : (

Anyway, it's worth noting that CWITECH has put up updates pretty regularly since V3. Current is 3.0.12c. Still a bear to use, IMO, but the updates did smooth some issues out, and for free it's pretty amazing. But, yeah, in the dictionary next to "unintuitive" is a screenshot of the TX16Wx.

it is awesomeness and the ony such thing at its price point... go ahead, I will wait while you trawl kvr..

and for a one man dev team, calle is ironing out the bugs in v3 at an alarming reaper like rate.

seriously, v3 has DFD. and it already did intelligent name based token mapping, beat slicing, actual sampling, velocity layering, round robins, group and key switching etc etc etc. non monolithic format that can be edited in notepad. what else you want with that, a pound of coke and two tranny hookers ??

like I said, it is da shiz.

Hey my friend, Ha ha, well I'll skip the "coke and two tranny hookers", but TX16Wx looks very promising, and I know you've got it all figured out. This should work well with our next drum library.

I've used the free version for a while for sfz instruments (works great) and also it's sample slicing, I think it's based on a 90's hardware sampler and I like that era of Hip Hop/Junge that used breakbeats, so I'm guessing it has similar limitations of the hardware of the 90s.

yes it originally was based on the actual tx16wx.

but has loooong since surpassed that. theres actually very very few limitations.

you can literally open any of the .txperf, .txprog or mtrice files in any text editor like notepad and just hack it.

but, YES, you can ignore the deeper functions and actually just load up some sick beats to chop and some sampled bass for that 90's style breakbeat / hiphop love.

So, keeping your head below and above water!
Yeah, I did update MDrummer, old projects were OK, but it was scary and I think I had to manually adjust a few things...can't remember exactly, but some things sorta changed names..anyway looks like the new big pack is around the corner (hopefully).
