Reverb in Reaper
I know Reaper is cheap, but it comes with a million JS effects, and yet has no usable reverb (that I can figure out). What is up?
And no, I don't want to download some impulse response file from some stranger who will hack into my computer.
What DAW doesn't come with some usabl reverb? Presonus has one. Calkwalk used to have several. Pro Tools, whatever. Hell, like I say, Reaper has TONS of effects. It's actually these which is preventing me from using other DAWs because they are so good.

For me the included ReaVerbate and ReaVerb plugins are quite usable. With ReaVerb you can create a lot of variations of reverberation without any impulse response files.

Kenny puts this included reverb plugin "ReaVerbate" to the test in this video and I think it sounds great! Use it all the time.

Impulse files are just wav files, you can scan them with your anti-virus. The algorithm 'verb is ok too.

ReaVerb with free MR impulse files provides excellent reverb for a wide range of usage cases.
(IMHO, "stock" plugins that are easily available from 3rd parties are free courtesy offers of a DAW and not a must - or even decently desirable - at all.)

LOL! Make sure you wear a tin-foil hat!
Plenty of absolutely great free and "safe" IRs out there.

Simply because I find Reaper to be frustrating, absurd, ridiculous and often stupid, does not make me a troll.
And for you not to know that seems pretty far fetched.
Why do you think people spend so much money on DAWs? Because Reaper is frigging pain to use.

You think I am overly paranoid because I don't want to download files from complete strangers? And for this, you want to ridicule me?

How am I supposed to use them? The videos only show people downloading impulse response files from other places. I try the echo and reverb generators, and they sound like crap to me - or certainly not meant for subtle vocals. I try to open a reverb file and there are no impulse response files.
What I would like to do is what I do in every other single DAW - start up a reverb effect, and dial the reverb in that I like.

Yeah, sounds really cheap and unusable to me. Like it is recorded in a garage.
It's got a weird echo to it.

What did you do? Are you a developer?
Are there impulse response functions installed when you install reaper?

From what I understand, coding a good sounding and cpu efficient reverb is a little more in depth than some other effects.
There are a lot more subtleties to the art and that's why free options in this arena are a little more limited than commercial.
FWIW ValhallaDSP offers some fantastic reverbs for $50 that will cover just about any reverb you need.

But not using some alternative DAW instead makes you seem a not very serious discussion contributor.

Yeah, you're overly paranoid, everyone on the internet is a complete stranger (do you know personally any DAW developer?) and IR files are safe. Application-specific file formats like those aren't malware spreading vectors, nobody will try to hack your system via the reverb plugin or a speaker cabinet simulator. If you aren't a troll you're really determined to make your life harder.
There's a ton of cool free reverbs, in form of both IR loaders and modelling plugins, you'd probably find a ton of them on KVR audio. If you're afraid of software made by "strangers" just keep your antivirus up to date or don't download plugins in .exe installers.
