Default Combined In and Out MIDI cable

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I did not find anything more relevant.

I want to make some MIDI cables for my gear and I found a big roll of 6-wire cable in my basement.

My question is: can I use the same cable for IO (with two connectors, of course), since MIDI only uses 3 of the 5 DIN plugs? Or will I run into noise issues and such?

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I did not find anything more relevant.

Without checking the signal specs on a MIDI line: Provided you find at least 2 separately shielded lines for I/O in that cable (although I don't think levels are high enough to cause serious crosstalk) I don't see why that wouldn't work. Maximum length per cable shouldn't exceed 20-30" though. Without knowing the cable specs I'd say "just try it and see what happens"
