----------------------------------------------
Screenshots
----------------------------------------------

Capturing a screenshot, on a Windows 7 PC:
  • once you have the desired window displayed, select it,
  • press Alt+PrtScn on your keyboard,
  • in Windows 8.1, hold down the Windows key (four panes key) and press PrtScn,
  • open Microsoft Paint (or similar),
  • Ctrl+v to paste the window into MS Paint,
  • edit / trim / annotate it as needed,
  • Ctrl+s to save it to disk
----------------------------------------------
Capturing a screenshot animation, on a Windows PC:
  • once you have the desired Reaper window displayed, start Licecap,
  • position it over the area you can to capture,
  • click [Record], select a destination folder and enter a file name,
  • set any desired options,
  • click [Save] to start the recording, and [Stop] to finish it,
  • you can also Pause the recording and insert an explanatory text frame.
----------------------------------------------
Including a screenshot in your reply
  • upload it to an Image Server (e.g. imgur or ...),
  • paste the resulting link to your image, surrounded by "[IMG]" and "[/IMG]" tags (no quotes), into your reply,
  • or post a thumbnail image, with a link to the big picture into your reply.
Please note: Big pictures in forum threads force out the width of the thread pages so a lot of scrolling horizontally is needed to read the other replies, find the links and type a reply. It's all a bit awkward. Animated gifs can take a long time to download.

Instead, it is better to post a thumbnail image and a link to the bigger picture; that makes reading and replying easier. As an example, using imgur.com (other image servers should have similar mechanisms):
  • upload your image to imgur.com ,
  • hover over the uploaded image until you see the URL, a [Copy] button and a drop-down arrow,
  • click on the arrow and select "Get share links", here are the sorts of screens you should see:
    >>> https://i.imgur.com/Ni3QsM3.png

  • click [Copy] for the "BBCode (Forums)" link for the uploaded image. then Ctrl+c,
  • paste it into your post AND ADD A 't' to the image filename to create a thumbnail-sized image,
  • paste in the link (to the full-size picture) again AND REMOVE the IMG tags to create a link.
As in:
PHP Code:
[img]http://i.imgur.com/iCtdt7ut.png[/img] >>> https://i.imgur.com/iCtdt7u.png
The end result is:
>>> https://i.imgur.com/iCtdt7u.png

----------------------------------------------
Attaching a screenshot to your reply

Attach the image file(s) (or a .zip file containing them all) to your reply:
  • in Windows, select the file(s),
  • right-click a file, select Send To ... compressed (Zipped) folder),
  • when you reply, scroll down a bit, open the "Additional Options" section if needed by clicking the double downwards arrows,
  • click on [Manage Attachments], browse to your file, select and Upload it.

Describing your hardware set-up
----------------------------------------------

When starting out with Reaper, one of the challenges can be getting everything connected.

To help us help you, it would be valuable if you can sketch out what set-up you have in mind, showing the paths for audio and MIDI between the various units. Otherwise we could only be guessing and go off down the wrong track.

Also, please post (or attach) screenshots of the Audio and MIDI device configurations that you have set up in Reaper's Preferences, showing the drop-down lists for the audio. Click [Options] > Preferences > Audio > Device, and MIDI Devices.

Don't post them here, put them in your own thread.

Below is a simple example:

With this sort of information, we are much better placed to offer guidance.

Installing JS FX
----------------------------------------------

  • download the attachment,
  • unZip the file or remove the .txt file extension (or both) if needed,
  • in Reaper, open the JS FX folder by clicking [Options] >> "Show Reaper resource path ..." then selecting "Effects",
  • put the JS FX file in (a sub-folder in) Reaper's AppData / Effects folder (in Windows), or Reaper's ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER/Effects folder (in OSX),
  • restart Reaper.
The JS FX will now be available in the FX Browser.

Other files may be included with the JS FX itself. If so, then the developer should provide specific instructions for installing those files.

Installing a LUA or EEL script
----------------------------------------------

  • download the attachment,
  • if needed, unZip the file or remove the .txt file extension (or both),
  • in Reaper, open the Scripts folder by clicking [Options] >> "Show Reaper resource path ..." then selecting "Scripts",
  • put the LUA or EEL script file in (a sub-folder in) Reaper's AppData / Scripts folder (in Windows), or Reaper's ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER/Effects folder (in OSX),
  • restart Reaper,
  • open the Action List, select the relevant section ('Main', 'MIDI Editor' etc),
  • select "New / Load" in the ReaScript row,
  • select the file to be added, click [Open].
The script will now be available in the Action List and can be Run from there, or added to a Menu or Toolbar button.

Other files may be included with the script file itself. If so, then the developer should provide specific instructions for installing those files.

All very useful stuff, DS, and somehow I had missed this.

Maybe because it is the very FIRST sticky and I always assume I already read them!

Sorry 'bout that
