Default Ctrl + Drag and fade envelope shape on items

Ok so another strange behaviour I noticed today. When using ctrl + drag to copy and item from one place to another on the timeline the shape of the fade envelope on it resets to default (if you have reviously adjusted it). But copy and pasting the same item using ctrl + c/ ctrl + v retains the fade envelope shape. Why is this and how can I make it so that the shape is retained regardless of the method of copy and pasting?

Are you sure you sure this isn't turn off ? :
"Move envelope points with media items and razor edits" tool on main toolbar or

"Option" / "Envelope Points" / "Move envelope points with media items"

?

Yes of course, otherwise the envelope points wouldn't move at all.

No need for that option to be on just for the item fades. Usually normal fades will simply follow with items.

This problem here sounds like dealing with auto-crossfades. They were created originally because you had overlapping items and auto-crossfade was on. Now that you drag these items elsewhere, the auto-crossfade condition (overlapping items) doesn't necessarily apply for them anymore.

Difference to copying is that when you copy an item, you copy it at its current state, fades and all. But if you drag the item, the mere act of dragging can also change some item parameters, e.g. the crossfade state.
