Haven't got a long way into it yet, but it looks powerful...just having the windows key as an extra modifier and modifier-combo makes a huge difference to how you map your shortcuts in Reaper.

Shan, did you ever check out the Belkin n52? It's like a souped up version of AHK on a controller.

Thanks for reminding me about that too, Nicholas...

Did you get my PM about this? It would be good if you could give us some help/input into the AHK section I'm writing for the User Guide. Your understanding and experience in these areas would be most valuable.
Me?....I guess I'm off to check my PM's.

Yes, I remember looking at that controller a few years back. There are a few other good ones out there also. I've never tried any of these yet, just read about them.

I wouldnt mind one of these for editing:

That would speed things up.

I'm thinking of getting one of these as well to try out:

I've just aquired one, but haven't used it yet. A few folks here are using it with Nuendo and were raving about it, so I thought at $35 I'd give a workflow speedup like that a try.

I think I'll grab one of these and check it out. Once we get more super editing commands created and all these gadgets atattched to us, we're gonna look like the Borg. Resistance is futile!

OK that's it. If youy're getting one, I'm definitely gonna get one. Gotta try and keep one step ahead (or only one step behind...)

Seriously, what I want to do is to use the Wolf Claw AND the n52 together ....

Default Thank you Bevosss!!

The freeze macro is just what I've been looking for. I haven't tried it yet (at work), but it seems it will eliminate stemming and extra wave files, right? If so you made my day!

Yes...the 'render to stems' action is better for folder tracks, where there is no media on the track eg vsti's. There will still be a new wav file in your project from the 'apply fx' action however. You need file - clean project to get rid of them automatically.

Default Copy/Delays - Automated Macro

You know how you can make up delays by copying a word from one track, then creating more tracks and pasting a single copy on each track as the taps?

Well this automates the process! Here's the instructions:

Select the area to copy on the item

Right Click - 'copy selected area of selected items' ...or use the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-C

Make sure the track is selected, go back before the word, then hit play

Press the key (F12 in my case) at every point you want a delay created. Any rhythm you want.

* It basically creates a new track, and then pastes the media at the play cursor position...and so on.

Here's the screenshot and macro:

*see, i pasted them in as half bar delays.

If your computer can't keep up, or you prefer to add tracks in a track template or manually, change the first action to 'track: go to next track'.

Have fun!~

Unflippin' real Bev!!! I think Reaper is the only app inwhich we can create this amazing Macros to speed up our workflow. This is a KILLER macro for a common mixing technique.

Default Move Horizontal Focus to the Left of the Screen

This is for those who use the cursor as the horizontal zoom.

You zoom in, and the cursor jumps to the middle of the screen. This macro moves the cursor view to the left hand side. This works when the right hand side is expanding out of view, which is more usual...swap action 2 and 3 for the left hand expand version.

nb it doesn't work if there are no items in the project, or after all the items end.

I made this macro toolbar with AHK. It shows tooltips on the icons as well.

This is a great way to organize and use macros and shortcuts, especially if your memory is as poor as mine
and you can't remember all your shortcuts and trigger keys.

I know the icons look kind of crappy but what the heck - it works for me!

PJS:

Oh my god, that is amazing! I've been trying to do something like this and failed abysmally.

Now you must stop teasing us. Please, please, please post your code somewhere for download, so that I can study it to understand how you have done this, then make my own.

Please, please, please.

PS I think I m ight have forgotten to say "please".

Default sometimes steps not working

hi Bevosss

I can't figure out a few things.

How would I:
have the cursor go to start of loop selection right after I made the selection?

Your own suggestion:

Move Cursor to Start of Loop Selection - K

Loop selection: shift right (by loop selection length)
Loop selection: shift left (by loop selection length)

doesn't work here.....

PJ,
Very clever stuff, and all credit to you. I'm impressed with the idea of using icons to represent macros and KC, paticularly those i don't use all the time, and tend to forget for that lack of regular use.
As Nicholas asked, if you are willing to share the script, it would be MUCH appreciated.

Nice work, and ongoing proof of the creative usability of Reaper and the creative skills of many of it's users.

Alex.

I'd like to take all the credit for this but I got the code examples and snippets from guys at the AHK forum.

Anyway here is my script and icons if anyone wants to take a look.
You'll of course have to modify the script according to your own macros.

Default REAPER Macro Assistant - try it out

Here's something for you to try.

I'm hoping to bundle a Reaper Macro Assistant in with the next User Guide upgrade to Reaper 2.00

It's because I find the Keyboard Shortcut interface unwieldy, having to keep digging down into and out of dialog boxes to find what actions are available for inclusion in macros.

The Macro Assistant runs as independently of Reaper, it's a simple little stand-alone tool that just lets you browse, search, filter, sort, etc the list of assignable actions, hopefully to help work out your macros and familiarise yourself with what's available.

It requires dBworx, not because it's the best database manager around, but because it's freeware. You can get dBworx here. Note there's two versions, including one that you have to pay for. The free one is all you need:
http://www.plworx-software.com/

And you can then download the Reaper Keys database and instructions to go with it from here:
http://www.cockos.com/~glazfolk/REAP...oAssistant.zip

Please have a play around, and feedback appreciated.

Default Duplicate stuff

these work best if you toggle auto-cross fade off.

1. make a loop selection. Hit the key, and watch that loop selection material be duplicated right/left. Note items in the new location are overwritten.

and this one is also pretty nifty!
make a loop selection, hit the key and watch as the loop selection material is duplicated to the right... all items are shifted (rippled) to the right to make room.

also, you need to adjust your prefs such this one: is enabled.

happy fast editing!

Great idea pjs, and thanks for posting it. One problem here:

When I start your script, Reaper starts and I see the toolbar, then after a second it disappears! Any idea what's going on there?

Edit: it was disappearing behind Reaper for some reason, that's all....disregard!

what a great idea, pjs! but how do I set it up /use it in REAPER?
btw I'd immediately vote + 1000 to have the option of displaying a macro toolbar in REAPER natively. I always got other things on my mind than keyboard shortcuts...

You can install autohotkey Alex, or I could turn it into an executable file for you...you should check the shortcuts are to your liking though (right click on the ahk script, edit script).

No worries Alex, just PM me the link when you've uploaded it somewhere.

I'm off to NZ next week, so it'll have to be before then.

Default Save Project File without being driven mad macro

How many times have you done Ctrl S to save file, only that because you're on an FX window, up pops the box to save your FX Chain, not the project file.

Doesn't it drive you mad?

Well this little AutoHotKey macro keeps Ctrl S as context sensitive (so you can still use Ctrl S to specifically save your FX chain if you wish), but uses Ctrl Shift Q to ALWAYS save the project file. Of course you can use any key combo you like - I've assigned it to one of the orange button on my n52!

The macro makes the Main REAPER window active, then saves, then returns to whichever window you were in when you invoked the macro and makes that window active again.

;Ctrl Shift Q - Save File

Default Done! Reaper v2.4 somtheing or other!

Very cool stuff indeed.

Reaper really needs some Macro managment built in. How cool would it be to be able to upload and download each others macros?
