Default "overlapping media items in lanes" annoyance

"Show Overlapping media items in lanes" is automatically checked on If you activate FIMP (free item positioning mode) for any tack. And it cannot be unchecked. Therefore all you non-FIPM tracks become a staggered mess if they have crossfades. And you have to switch to FIPM mode for those tracks to get it back to a single lane.

This is rather annoying , I really hate that feature. yuk. I don't really get it??? why does this even need to be on for FIMP to work?

I'm hoping there is something I'm missing here, can I turn it off?

Ah, that's interesting. I have a project, maybe a couple, where I can't turn off items in lanes. FIPM isn't active for any tracks but it's an old project and I think that at one point I may have dabbled with FIPM but decided it didn't suit me. Maybe that's why I can't get single lanes?

Edit: Well, activating FIPM for all track and then turning it off didn't help. Something's stuck somewhere. FIPM might be the cause but it's not the solution.

Hmm... seems I am wrong about the cause.

This might be an old issue, and only effects old projects. There might actually not be a problem.

Anyone else had a problem with the overlapping lanes being stuck on?

Yeah, turning activating FIPM on a track in a new project doesn't activate items in lanes (IIL) and I have no problem toggling IIL on/off.

The project (s?) I've noticed this issue with are very old, started before REAPER 4.0. Maybe that's a factor. I wonder if the issue would persist if I copy/pasted the whole thing into a new project...

Edit: Yeah, pasting and saving into a fresh project fixes it. I can toggle IIL on/off again.

Don't really know. It's not just old projects. But maybe it was on old track templates. I think I've seen it when FIPM was not involved. I don't use it much but do so occasionally. Maybe a month or so I've been noticing it? Will pay more attention...
