Default LoopRecording setup - former Vegas users please help

i just can't find the way how to record audio in loop, like i can do in Vegas.

i'd need only one (big) file on the HDD, without gaps between the takes. At this moment i can't do "perfect take", 'coz if i use Shift+Alt+Drag (wish it could be ALT+Drag only) on the whole unsplitted take, the most part of that take disappears.

(i've asked about this "feauture" before.)

Reaper writes the takes as separated files - or i just not find the setting..

Former Vegas users know what i'm asking about.

thanks

in options choose the third one down, "autopunch selected items".

Split out the section to record into like in vegas, then draw a loope around it for all the preroll and postroll you want

I inderstand exactly what you are after.
In cubase, when recording in cycle mode only one audio file is created on the harddrive. Each Lap (take in Reaper) is merely an event and a region. In the pool in cubase you will find a little [+] next to the audio file. the tree shows the various regions and events (the takes) that are a part of that audio file.

In reaper, every Take / Lap of the looped area is treated /saved as an individual file. You want one file such that, if you want, you could drag the end of it and have one item on the track ewual to the length of the original loop selection x the number of laps.

I don't think reaper works this way. I would be very excited if it did!

nice video!

as far as i know Justin "came from" Acid, Vegas and Logic..

why he implemented that godsend (imho)loop-rec of Vegas this way into Reaper? - dunno.

but worse, I can't record in loop for eg. synth pads without glitch, and without some lost audio in R..
the recorded area is less than the selected. i'v tried to point on this in the video.

furthermore, i have a FR:

a wanna place markers into the in-recording (loop-or-linear rec) file. for marking bad or fantastic moments.. (blue and orange markers?)

pipe, thank you for the swf - i see it works over there.

Justin, thank you for the update, but here's what i get after pressing stop, and "Save all":

i have to press "OK" 4 times, to go back to the empty TCP. besides, the file is on the HDD, i seems to be recorded without gaps.

i have RME HDSP + UAD (1 card). how to set up this system properly?

oops, sorry.

WORKS FINE, THANKS!

but please Justin, give a chance to have "slip-slide" only with ALT+DRAG.

Shift+Alt+Drag is very uncomfortable.

Wicked...

Found one little thing...

4 bar loop record on track 1, drag item out.

Copy item to track 2, switch to take 2, move item to bar 5.

Should line up with track 1 but i had to shift it forward 292 samples to make it sync.

ah ok I think I know what the problem is... the problem stems from the fact that the looping is granular to the block size.

because of this there's no perfect solution--either we need to drop samples from the recording, or have the loop be slightly off in these instances (which is what we do, and it's always less than the blocksize off).

Thang...
I don't think that this problem exists in the other DAWs that I have used... (I will check C4 CSX and PTLE - no not PTLE i don't want to reinstall it.) I wonder if they use the same/similar looping is granular-blocksize method?

I hope there is a fix for this that doesen't result in dropped samples nor out of sync audio. I have faith.
