a way to make midi items look like they used to?
Hi,
As stated.
I can dig other ppl liking the new midi item peaks and note display and CC lanes in arrange. But I can't stand it. Is there a way to get the old "look" back.
I'm not not at comp now...but will post screenie. Maybe my theme needs adjustment?
Nothing personal, just midi:-)
Thanks
Guido

You will likely need some adjustment in the theme, usage of some colors was shifted around.
Everything looks much better now. Really.

Interesting. How do you switch to the new look? Or is this on Windows only? Because on Mac OS midi items still look the same.

CCs show in peaks when an item is a bit taller now, they show with more detail and actually follow which CC is selected in the MIDI editor, which is kinda nice.

Was posting this in the pre-threads as well. I can see the new behaviour has it advantages in some situations, but most of the time I would definitely go for the old look. I need to see a quick overview of my CCs, when composing. Only being able to see the CCs on an enlarged track is a no go for me.
Maybe best of both worlds would be a good idea:
- if the item is small, show the overlays as they used to be.
- if the track is bigger, show them in seperate lanes, as in the new version

Haha, good one, thanks. I expanded both only 3 clicks just to keep them the same size...not really to show the CCs as well. But now I feel obliged to do that as well. Just a sec fellows...

Hi,
Updated first post w screens. Sorry for my lack of gimp skills.
I would just like to know what to do to get it like before.
Also ,if i may,
I have these dark horizontal lines in the main arrange area between tracks visible ONLY when in a time selection. Which dam color is that one ^^
Thanks

Yeah, in your case you should just hide the extra lanes in MIDI editor and you're golden.
CCs look much better and are more informative in the latest pres.

Sorry man, but I disagree about the look better.
Go thru all my midi items and hide the CCS then edit items....turn em on /off, for this?
Naww, apologies but.. I'm just one guy. Sure wish it was optional. The midi notes sometimes look like big black blobs. The velocity indicators are much thicker also..
Thanks for the input guys.

The new MIDI look makes it possible to specify which CC lanes to display in the arrange view. I think this makes it easier to see, at a glance, CC curves for relevant CCs within and across multiple items.
I wrote the script "js_Select CC lanes to show in selected MIDI items" to facilitate changing CC lane visibility in multiple items together.

That's definitely a great thing, to choose, which CCs are shown in the arrange view. But it still would be great, if we had a view with stacked CCs.
Let me explain:
Especially, when you are working on orchestral stuff, e.g. strings, CC1 is used for "dynamic" and CC11 as "main volume". Both are used in conjunction for more realistic dynamics. When I'm recording Violins 1 for example, I like to see the dynamics of Violins, Violas, Celli, etc... to create a homogenous dynamic shape. However, with the new CC view, this takes a lot of space.
I hope it's understandable what I'm trying to say

(ahh - here it is, i was looking for this conversation)
i have a use case where i'd rather see the CC data at any zoom level. here, items with only CC data disappear at low zoom levels and appear as if they were empty items. this could lead to them accidentally being deleted by overzealous cleanup.
the single notes are triggering looped samples. the CC cuts it off. very simple, binary midi track. i'd rather not have to zoom in on it vertically just to see the end trigger.

In pre14a now there's always at least one CC lane shown, at any zoom level.

At least one: yes, at any zoom level: no. Not yet at least.

my title got cropped, but what theme element controls the cool CC shading? it doesn't appear very well on my lighter tracks.

Wow okay, then either it's the theme I'm using or a bug. Will double check.
EDIT:
doesn't work here, although the preference is set:
What's also strange: there is only a CC1 lane, but in the item 2 are shown.
The first one is the expanded and the 2nd one is the combined, I guess.

It looks like maybe you are on pre14, rather than the current pre14a?

It's just an alpha applied to the peaks color, not themeable yet.

Eek, although I'm checking for new releases regularly, this slipped my attention, mea culpa!
EDIT: just checked 14a, oh guys, I love you! Awesome work! Thanks so much for listening
