There is some other way to skip this now as well. I just did it the other day. I too was pissed off that it wanted me to create an account on a computer I had wiped and was selling. I think if put in a "fake" email address it gives you the option to skip setting it up when it "fails" to find the account. Can't remember exactly.

Default Power settings

The only real issue I've had with Windows 10 is that some of the updates changed the power settings from "Ultimate Perfomance" til "Balanced". Took me forever to figure why I suddenly had cracks and pops in my audio.

I haven't had that happen but good to know it's something worth checking.
A similar thing....some updates (not all) change my sample rate in sound settings,
Firewire card compatibility was a problem when I went W7 to W10...had to research and buy another one.
Apart from those things no problems.

Make sure you get 10 Pro. It's way better than Home

Default Installing Win10 Without MS Account, etc.

Hello,

Here are some of the things I ran into during my recent "upgrade" from Win7Pro to Win10Pro. I hope it will be of help to someone, as this forum and the great folks here continue to be invaluable to me.

1) When installing to a new HD (as in my case), you do NOT need to format the new drive first - the installer will take care of this. This may be obvious to some, but since I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer this was something I didn't know.

2) During the installation process (in my case from an official MS USB drive) you can expect the PC to restart - they will forewarn you of this in the instructions. HOWEVER, even after the software was successfully installed, I never received an indication that I could close out of the process. It kept restarting and repeating the entire procedure endlessly. If you are asked more than once to enter your key code and basic setup info, the new OS has already been installed. Continuing will result in a second installation of the OS. In my case, I kept repeating the whole sequence as prompted, and actually ended up with FOUR installations of Win10 on my new HD! If you are asked more than once to enter this basic information, back out of the procedure, remove the USB drive, and change your BIOS back to booting from the HD. When you restart, your new Win10 OS should appear.

3) You do NOT need to use a Microsoft account to set up your new OS. As already mentioned by others, you can get around this by knowing what to look for and following a few simple steps. Here are links to a couple of articles which showed me how to avoid this dishonest requirement:

https://windowsreport.com/install-wi...osoft-account/

https://www.msftnext.com/install-win...osoft-account/

During the setup procedure, you will probably get to a page which asks for Microsoft's access to everything short of your bedroom activities. I just turned EVERYTHING off. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this page to make sure you haven't missed anything, as everything is turned ON by default. Even though I don't intend to put this PC online any more than necessary, I think it's important to limit access by external entities as much as possible in this day and age.

Hopefully I've remembered everything I learned and have included it here. After reconfiguring the Win10 desktop a bit, the new OS hasn't really been that radical of an adjustment.

I hope something here will be of help.

I've read from some Win7 die-hards, that if you wear your tin-foil hat during Win 10 installation, then everything will work great from there on out.

I haven't tried it myself, since I like to live on the edge because I'm an adrenaline junky.

It's not the norm but it has happened before, and that's basically why I don't use W10.. -> You've got no control over Windows Update.

Ofc you can..
Uninstall all those bloatware Apps,
Disable all those Unnecessary/Spy Services,
Disable Windows Update Services (after updating),
Install proper AV/Firewall/behavior solution and dial it to the Max,
Install anti-spy software like Spybot and their Antibeacon,
Give proper love to the windows hosts file..

And get a Leashed, controlled and working W10 system..

However, doing that and gaining full control will leave you with a somewhat crippled system..
You'll have to manually update it every time, and each time a major update comes,
all the Bloatware apps, and Disabled services will be restored back to normal..

So in essence, you'll be fighting the system more than actually using it.

-However i was wondering the other day..
Is it possible to use a legit W7 Key to install W8.1 from an ISO, and update for free aswell?

As far as I know W8.1 Update has the same old system that W7 has,
so it can be an option in terms of compatibility with somewhat newer hardware..

-And that's another point, does W8.1 support newer processors like Ryzen?
I know some ppl are getting good results with Ryzen on W7, but they use off-spec drivers and bioses, so it could be a bit risky..
Yea you do - use StopUpdates10
https://greatis.com/stopupdates10/

https://greatis.com/stopupdates10/download.htm

There's a portable version too...

Virus Total (VT is owned by Google) reports for current versions:

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/...0962/detection

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/...4904/detection

Windows 10 still sucks tho... but it does have some stuff that's a bit better as to kernel/hardware interface. For my EDA tools, it made a big difference in performance for the latest version, since the dev's are primarily using it.

A lot of Altium and Solidworks users bitch about the incessant updates breaking their installations.

There's a lot more crap to do just to get basic stuff that Winblows used to have - stuff like the old calculator are replaced with silly "Apps" that take up a ton of screen real estate... my PC ain't no phone and I'm so sorry, MS that you missed that cash cow - bu please let me have a PC. So I also use Open Shell (was Classic Shell) - so my machine looks like XP for the most part. File Explorer still sucks but Q-Dir is kinda OK... and a lot more tweak.

Yea - I recall back in 1982 when I was doing the first interface for the CGA cards... we took a stereo shop out of bankruptcy (Opus One In Pgh) doing a ton of conference rooms with PC's...

I can hear - "OK boomer"

Damn kids nowadays...

One of the things I find irritating is how the taskbar buttons are highlighted - with a small strip on the bottom of the button. I look at my screen slightly from above its center and by the nature of LCD viewing angle, those tiny strips disappears for my sight.

Startisback https://startisback.com/his can return back Win7 style buttons alongside the win7 style start menu.

And yes, you can download LTSC evaluation directly from MS.

Also if you dont have drivers for your gear try using the win7 driver in compatibility mode. Worked for me - well, not fully, meaning i dont have fully functional knobs on my soundcard but i can control everything from the on-screen mixer on my 15yo m-audio firewire.

If you want an enterprise license they are MORE than the Pro version not less. Instead of wasting $15 why don't you just google a free key? There are loads of them listed and are every bit as "legit" as the $15 ones.

If someone offered you are car for 5% of the list price, would you think it's legit?

Edit: Just checked ebay for one of these licenses. Says based in Italy, then when I look at the sellers page it claims to be from Viet Nam. Not suspicious at all. Also on ly been around 1 year...
I can't be 100% as I've not researched this recently for Windows 10 specifically, but I'm still fairly sure that the $15 Windows licenses you can buy on eBay are genuine unique licenses sold in mass bulk in foreign countries (Asia, Russia etc.) for huge companies and are not a calculated key from a keygen.

I'd guess it would come as a photograph of a sticker with the key on it and not just text in an email body.

As bFooz pointed out, they're a bit of a grey area. They're 100% legit and legal when actually used by that company on its work computers but they're not supposed to be resold and used by random home users on the other side of the world. So technically, you wouldn't be complying with the license terms at all so you wouldn't be a legit Microsoft customer.

There is even a chance these blocks of keys can be banned by Microsoft and there's nothing the buyer would be able to do about it.

I would guess the chance of that happening would be lower than if it was just a generated fake license that doesn't have any kind of proximity to legitimacy. That is a pure guess on my part though.

So when you mention the car thing; i.e. "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is" - it's different when you're aware of how it works and know that the seller can still be making money at $15. Let's leave car aside (wouldn't risk safety, insurance etc.) but let's say a TV or a guitar was available at 5% of the normal price - I'd take it if I knew there was some way of the seller exploiting foreign markets to be able to sell it for that price at profit.

Come to think of it, that is how we legitimately get lots of high quality goods for such good prices - they're made in poor countries where the labour is cheap. It's just that the windows license sellers are also cheating on a business deal as well as taking advantage of the difference in countries' economies.

That is definitely the worst thing about Windows 10 for me - now and then there is an update that resets a good few of my preferences (simple things like how folders are displayed etc.) It also re-adds annoying shortcuts, tries to plug MS software like their browsers etc.
