Recording midi from Ample-Guitar

I've been working on Ample guitar for a while and after creating a file with Ample guitar I could record it to a midi track to see the effect.

But how can I do it, I do not know, recently the recording did send a signal, but the midi-file remains empty despite save midi-recording. What did I do wrong?

Set the track to Record OUTPUT: MIDI ?

Meanwhile solution found after a long search: Settings in Ample-Guitar to Midi-Out ON still no results. Then Record Output midi the solution. Was first Record input (audio or Midi) seemed more logical to me.

Thanks for posting this answer. I struggled for a while with this. Just wondering if this is just a solution for Ample Guitar, or is this a general technique concerning certain VST instruments. Why is this step necessary in this case and does it apply to other situations?
Just looking to understand better.

If you want a midi recording then the above solution is necessary and indeed occurs with VST instruments. Without action it would be a Wave file.
