Default Show/hide (resize) region/marker/signature lane

I rarely use regions, markers and time signature changes in my projects so the lanes above the ruler are mostly just wasted screen real estate.

It would be great if we could toggle the visibility of these lanes via toggle actions.

EDIT (better implementation idea): or rather resize as I described in post #3 of this thread.

This is how resizing works now:

And here a mockup for what should be possible:

An idea how to solve this even more seamlessly than with actions would be as follows:

Make it possible to drag the main toolbar to a size as small as the ruler. When dragging to such a size smaller than the current minimum, make the second row of buttons disappear (if there are any) and also make the region, marker and signature lane disappear one after another (not sure in which order would be most logical).

This way if you want to see a small toolbar and only the ruler you drag it up to minimum size and when you want to see your lanes and more toolbar button rows you drag it down to a bigger size.

+1
I'd especially like to toggle (or resize) the one in the midi editor.

Still weird to see so little interest in collapsing the lanes above the ruler.. anyone else who would like this possibility?

Added images to the original post to show how this would look like if dragging the main toolbar for making the lanes disappear was possible.

I agree and this would also mean the lanes for markers/regions/time sig/tempo would get an overhaul too and put them in their own dedicated lanes.

Yeah actual lanes at the top of the tracklist with their decicated control panel (like the tcp for tracks) that can be toggled visible/invisible would be very nice!

Or another cool approach would be to just allow putting markers/regions on actual tracks, but for that to be useful it would be neccessary to be able to pin tracks at the top of the tracklist.

Any of these approaches would be even way cooler than my original request, but I believe also much more time-consuming to implement. I hope that at least hiding the lanes will be possible some time soon.

Big +1 for this. And As norbury said, dedicated lanes for markers/regions/time sig/tempo which are really needed.

While this FR is simply about ways to hide the lanes, I also like the idea of dedicated lanes (instead of cramping them above the ruler) and think it's the better longterm solution. As more users may be interested in it and might contribute to the discussion, I thought it deserves it's own FR so I made one:

Still hoping this will eventually be done.

+1 for this!

Especially on laptop screens this would free up a bit of valuable space for arrange view.
