Windowless glue function .. do we really need a pop up ? option

When gluing and item which happens a whole lot round here, it would be nice to have an option to not show the pop up progress window.
I'm not sure if this would be any faster process wise but when using the function in a script for example it's not really neccessary as the gui struggles to keep up and there's lots of flashing gui boxes.
Can we make this a background process ?
