I cant get my XP machine up and running any more so I have to replace the PHASE 88 with another solution.
What to choose and should it be for Windows 10 ?

He probably means RME interfaces.
This one is on offer, ATM:
https://www.thomann.de/dk/rme_digiface_usb.htm
4 sets of ADAT @ 360 € = 32 in and 34 out (incl. headphones), with a choice of ADAT units.

I have a 64 bit driver for Phase88 (made by Terratec, right?)
Works OK on Win7. Not sure if it will work on Win10 though.

Yes it's by TerraTec
1) Are you sure it's for the rack model ?
2) Did you run it under Windows 7 ?

1 - Can'take say for sure since I don't have a Phase88 to try it out. But the driver fIles refer to Phase88.
2 - I use it on the old MT88 Terratec interface, which was my primary interface for some years. It now is used to input CD, cassette and FM tuner to my studio monitoring system. It runs fine with Win7 64 bit and has for years. The driver is unsigned, which means I had to disable Win UAC (some sort of command line I found by Googling) and leave Win7 permanently in something called 'Test Mode' before Win would let the driver install.
If you want to try it, send me a PM and I'll send you a link to download it from my Google drive.

Right now I'm running Reaper 4.78.
Is 5.XX compatible with 4.78 - reading files ect. ect. ect.
Any drawbacks in the 5.XX version ?

I've never seen or heard of any incompatibilities. Of course, I don't use every aspect of Reaper.
As far as the RME is concerned, I wouldn't worry either. We don't use any of these interfaces (yet), but RME's drivers are real stable. The only problems that surface now and then, are lesser USB ports on some computers. But those are extremely rare.

vm is emulated hardware, no wonder it won't work
but i'm curious if there is a way to get those old drivers going on win10
dl'd driver from http://terratec.ultron.info/Producer...88RACK/Update/
those exe-files can by unpacked using 7zip
set the win10 to accept unsigned drivers
google for 'bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECK'
and learn the dependencies.
install the old driver in hardware control panel's action , add Legacy hardware , manual install
maybe you have success

I think it's a little out of my "comfort zone" ;-)) and I would be so UN-secure what would happen "just around the next corner" ... uuuuuh and the next Windows update ... it would blow it all up !
What I would like was to get some HW-documentation on the PHASE88 RACK-version and try write a driver myself - just to try it !

I've been a programmer for 30 years, so I only see writing a driver as a challenge ... hopefully giving me MORE control !
Your path leads to nowhere and probably leads to LESS control ;-))
But I dont think it is posible to get the needed HW-documentation to write a driver.
So, it's more a calculation of where to get the most out of the "fight" ... so maybe it's time to get new HW ;-))
