Default Can't play audio in browser and reaper at the same time (with interface)

I have an Audient iD4 interface and for a while I was able to switch back and forth between youtube and reaper and I didn't have any problems with the audio.

For a week now, everytime I open up reaper, the audio on my browser seems to stop working. Anyone know what's causing this?

Preferences->Audio, check "Close audio device when stopped and application is inactive" and two next checkboxes.

Audient's driver seems very finnicky about sharing....you may need to also make sure Windows audio settings for the iD are set to the same sample rate as you are working in the DAW.

It seems to work sometimes. I noticed that if I leave my computer idle for 5 minutes and switch to youtube, the interface makes a clicking sound and then I am able to listen to music on youtube but if I switch back and forth especially when I watch tutorials, it doesn't work.

I have the same issue with Focusrite and Firefox. Interestingly Chrome is ok.

I still have the same problem in Chrome. I tried setting the same sample rate setting (48KHz) in Reaper and on the Audient preferences.

And what's the setting in Windows audio settings?

I finally found the solution by unchecking exclusive mode here.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording Devices > right click id4 > Properties > Advanced

Even if the sample rates are the same, it didn't seem to work 100% unless exclusive mode in unchecked in windows.

Default thanks

Big thank you for solving this issue ... it was bugging me for quite a while.

The way I got there might have been slightly different on my system but basically in the sound settings/advanced or extra settings there is this exclusive mode you can disable on your audio device, which did the trick.
