Default 16 channels of discrete Kontakt midi/audio same channel

It drove me nuts having 16 channels of midi for kontakt & 16 audio tracks for each of the outputs. I'd almost rather have an instance of kontakt per track buy I figured out this little gem that allows me to use 1 instance of kontakt with 16 channels where the midi & audio share the same channel.

The trick is to turn on routing feedback. A single track sends midi to kontakt & kontakt sends the audio back to the same track where you're playing the midi. You can freeze/render individual channels of kontakt without freezing or rendering the others channels.

It's nice & neat just be careful with other routing so that you don't feed a track back to itself!

The only downside to this is that you cannot apply additional plugins while it's midi. You have to freeze or render the audio prior to applying additional plugins to the channel.

Remember, you have to have routing feedback on for this to work:

Routing feedback is turned on via Project Settings > Advanced > √ Allow feedback in routing

Yes indeed, but remember:
(a) PDC will not be handled correctly,
(b) if you accidentally create an AUDIO feedback loop you could end up damaging your monitors or your ears or both (possibly even with the AutoMute feature enabled (in Preferences / Audio)).

I've never completely understood why this is such a big deal for people, but whatever.

I can't see any good reason this would be the case as long as you've got the actual routing correct. Most of the time audio signals just pass right through (or around) MIDI-only plugs and vice versa. What were you trying to do when you decided it didn't work?
