Full audio mute needed when pausing playback
Hi.
It annoys me that every time I pauze playback I'm forced to listen to cymbals ringing out or reverbs trailing off...
I need Reaper to go mute instantly when I stop playback. I need a few seconds of silence before going back and listening again, and not always have to wait for cymbals or reverbs to die down. I feel it's a waste of time and unnecessarily taxing my ears as well.
Can anyone help a feller out?

Go to Options - Preferences - Audio - Playback
There, you should see the option Flush FX on stop. Enable it.
That should do the trick.

Well, that took care of the reverb trails but cymbals (midi) still ring out, so it's not a full mute.
A full mute on stop would be good to have as an option.

Oh that's funny.
It does stop here (I use Addictive Drums 2).
What do you use to trigger the cymbals?

Not at DAW to check but isn't there also a pref to send midi note off on stop.

I use just a midi file and Steven Slate Drums, very simple.
Couldn't find any mute on stop option in the SSD plug in, not sure where else to look.

In Prefs - Plug-ins - VST, there's the option "Don't send note-offs or pitch reset messages on stop/reset". It's unchecked by default. I assume a "Stop" does send a note-off.
Maybe you could create a Custom Action with this action : Send all notes off to all MIDI outputs/plug-ins

That doesn't do anything.
I was incorrect before: cymbals mute immediately when hittig "pauze" but not when hitting "stop".
Very weird. Nothing seems to work to remedy this.

Because of course if you wanted to look it up in the manual the first words that would come to mind are "Flush FX on stop" I mean it's just common English isn't it (NOT!!). Geeks live in their own world

If you didn't solve this then I would suggest trying this free VST which will solve all and any problems like this.
Muteomatic Talkback Auto Cue - it's easy to use and installs and worth the time to subscribe.

Create a custom action and use that instead.
Example:
MYSTOP:
mute midi
mute audio
stop
MYUNSTOP
unmute midi
unmute audio
play
You could have lots variants. One variant:
mute midi: velo_max set to 0
mute audio: vol_pan, volume set to 0
And you need to add those jsfx into each track as utility. midi as first jsfx, audio as last jsfx. Good luck.
In Reaper there is no such thing like: Is not possible. If really so, then just create the tool you need and want. Reaper is made for such situations perfectly. Not expecting all from the devs. It would be nice if devs would have a built in solution, but even if not, until then you can use your own solution, or another community solution. Have fun my friend.
