Default U-he Presswerk

I just bought this plugin and am really loving it! Besides being a non-specific vintage compressor, it has a few tricks up it's sleeves that are way cool. The internal parallel compression controls offer a HP filter that only affects the dry uncompressed signal so you can not only restore some dynamics, but also brighten things back up a little with filtered dry signal.

The controls for saturation are done quite well too. There are level controls that add saturation only to highs for smoothing, and another for full spectrum saturation only when the threshold has been crossed. I'm setting up an acoustic drum template using it, and when I got to the room mic and tweaked around with Presswerk, the level of detail in the drums suddenly popped.

I did this quick and dirty test with it to see what it could do with slamming busy drums. I also have it on my guitar and bass for the test and in particular I liked the result on my 5-string bass.

I find the UI a bit tricky to navigate but it is a great sounding plugin and I use it on everything.

It's taking me a cool minute to get the hang of tone manipulation using it, but I'm really digging the different approach U-he took with it. I haven't tried mid/side out with it yet, but I'm betting it will be something I will use.

Finally got a chance to try out the mid/side and side chaining with Presswerk. The mid/side seems to function pretty much like other compressors I've used, but I am most impressed with the side chaining.

Presswerk has a variable fader control in the detection signal path. You can set it's detection to both react to the signal it's processing and to a side chained signal coming from some other track and the fader control lets you balance between them to your liking.

I have demos of all the synths, but haven't tried them out very thoroughly yet. Presswerk is a very ingenious vintage capable compressor.

The test I posted with busy and hard hit drums is only using EQ and an instance of Presswerk on each of six acoustic drum tracks. The level of detail I was able to articulate on those loud busy drums really impresses me with this plugin.

The demo track just sold it to me right off the bat, on the bucket list it goes.

I'm really digging it on my acoustic drums. I still need to setup a track template using Presswerk for Superior Drummer though. Might mess with that this weekend.

They also have a user friendly, Reaper-like license. It makes it very easy to install and use. I have most of their plug-ins.

The Linux version was a simple one time user name and license key entry to go live. Works the same in Windows and I assume on Mac.

I really like some of the long room sounds on their free Protoverb, and use them in a few of my drum setups. U-he makes really top notch plugins and they don't employ lame copy protection schemes that only affect honest paying customers.
