Default THE JACK

Still stuck in 70's Rock mode..........

This time with a cover of AC/DC's "The Jack" 1976

didn't venture to far from the original,

except lead guitar licks aren't quite true to Angus(purposely)

*** Tweeked the mix ***

What do you think ?

Love it! Love this song!

You caught a great vibe Erik!

Dug the solos too! Tasty! Nice tone!

Good tone on the rhys too, but i'm wondering if you pulled a little of the low-mids if they wouldn't sit a little better next to that monster bass of yours?? Just a thought Mr. Fox.

Great job - AGAIN! You've got a flush going on music recently!!! lol..

Keep em' coming!!

This sounds so much more "solid" than most your older mixes. A nice 'in yo face' sound that I like. +1 on the tones. Beautiful lead, just wanted it to go on for one more round. Melts in your ears.

THanks Sammy !!!!!!!!

Regarding the mix in could just have been "My Lucky Day"

but now that I have a little bit of experience I have started doing things a little diffently. For one I used to cut mids out of everything not with a scalpel but with a backhoe..........now mids and I are becoming friends

Tweeked the mix a bit.........

Thanks Again Guys !!!!!

I think it sounds great. Smaller moves almost always sound more natural, particularly with EQing. Too much eq sounds...well...like too much eq (up or down) and you end up hearing more eq than music.

The rythym guitars are actually plug-ins. The Malcolm side(right) is Guitar Rig 5 with a slightly modified (Malcolm HB preset) The Angus side(left) is the HyBrit with the Plexi Lead channel off axis IR(that you sent me ) in LeCab. Lead guitar is Mesa Dual Rec with a little secret sause and close mic'd off axis w/SM57.

Missed this the first time around, so glad you posted it again. Mix sound awesome, translates great here, even on cheap little headphones. I like everything about this lift from the bass to the drums to the vocals to the killer riffing. Nailed this lift man. Nailed it.

Love this! Really good performance and mix. The only critique (and this is a personal choice thing) is the chorus effect on the lead vocals - I would have preferred a more dry vocal there with low-passed delay and reverb. Great job man!

Thanks Jon

I struggle with vocals in general
And have trouble choosing types of delays and reverbs that are appropriate. I do however understand the low-paas idea.....

Thanks again for the comment and the idea.

I struggle too - I am not perfect by any means. My go to for vocals that are not double or triple tracked (which I try to do when I can) to add fatness without sounding too "artifically stereoized" is Soundtoys Micro Shift with a little detune with the knob towards "Loose" and a say 10-20% mix, then Waves RVerb Vocal Plate preset and H-Delay using Stereo Delay preset, Hi Pass at say 100-150Hz, Low Pass at say 1kHz, fairly low feedback setting. I play with the settings song to song and can screenshot these settings from a recent song if you wish. Again I am not perfect here by happy help with my experience.

The only thing, and maybe it's been mentioned but I didn't read the thread, the vocals can use some de-essing. "SSSSHHHHHe'ssssss got the Jack" is a little sibilant.

Other than that, sounds great. Great voice you have, too.
Thanks for the kind words

I missed it 5 years ago and again recently but after you pointing it out.....
I'm hearing the need for de ess now
