like it, but the unharmonic harmonies made me grit my teeth. Is that first set deliberately out of key every time? The rest of the BVs seem to be on the money.

It's non-diatonic, Ivan. The organ and guitar share a key, but the bass and vocals are doing their own thing.

I think I have a similar response to this that I had with some of those other mixes you posted links to some days ago, in that other thread. My initial 'hit': reverb choices seem to create different spaces that don't quite work for me. For example, I want to hear the snare/sidestick sound and the 16th note/fast successive percussion bits within the space created by reverb on vox, but it seems like those bits have a different reverb treatment that puts them in a separate space. Something similar might apply to the rest of the instruments as well, where vox is in one space, percussion in another, and rest of instruments in another. Overall it's not that bad, but to my ear it's a distraction - it takes more away from the musical elements than it adds to the mix as a whole.

This was great!
I guess it's the genre, but I didn't like the rythm.
But anyway, I really like the song!

I don't think it's too much reverb, but the tail is too long and it is interfering with the phrasing of the vocals. I've also noticed a running theme of sibilance problems with your mixes, they are a bit ear-splitting. I like the honky-tonk piano effect though.

Just to be fair, seeing as you've shown me yours, I'll show you mine: https://soundcloud.com/rev-judas-sle...bex-rev-sleaze

Probably too dark and not enough reverb for you

Default yea im trying to break in new monitors

thanks J

im breaking in new speakers,. my speakers have attinuation switches
and the only way you can figure them out is by doing a lot of mixes

i always have that problem useing reaverb ,..theres no ADSR
so you cant shorten the reverb tails( theyre always +15 seconds)

that could be due to me smashing the mixes for "loudness" tho

more like a whinge because i feel like creativity gets no respect

i mean i significally increased the dynamics of the song while showcaseing the vocals

Yeah, I like what you did with the arrangement. The solo vocal at the beginning was nice. Not sure about the cymbal roll to nothing though, maybe that would be better shifted along a bit for when the bass comes in?

All depends on what goal you set yourself. Usually when I'm mixing multitrack I've downloaded I'm just focused on mixing, not production. So I take it as read that the producer has their vision down, and I just mix without messing with the arrangement. If I'm doing a remix then it's a totally different kettle of fish.

My favourite so far! The big washes of reverb work well in this, because there is plenty of space for it. Cool off-kilter vibe on this one.

This one is following all the rules, unlike the previous one.
So my face is calm & relaxed as usual...
I do like the singer though... Somewhat oriental feel to the phrasing & the glissando notes, which I like.
Slightly adventurous piece, but mostly because of the singer.
Well done.

A thought: One of my faves from the old days is C.C. Adcock, who did some interesting things with his voice & got some excellent Gulf Shore grooves going...
