You have to be joking starting a thread like that in this particular forum.

There are innumerable places more appropriate - starting with the Lounge here, but even there, it's of no service to the community here.

Amongst the membership there are probably hundreds if not thousands of issues which are of great concern to them but they have the sense to realise there's a time and place for them. Otherwise these forums would be 5% Reaper, 95% "Issues".

I strongly suggest that we should leave this one for dead right now.

An experienced warning to the moderators (which I've made before in a number of other message boards...):

Immediately make politics off-limits here, or suffer the consequences.

Default It does?

Then why does everybody want to come here?

Show me the perfect country and I'll sneak across THEIR border. (Whoops... err... I ain't saying that's how I got here eh? Uh-oh... I hope the INS doesn't read the Reaper forum!)

No offense Bebop but I personally am tired of everybody and his dog pissing and moaning about the stupid crap the USA does while ignoring all the GOOD things we do and have done over the decades. We currently have "questionable" government but that will change. Hopefully for the better.

Yeah, the forum would be better served by NO POLITICS.

That is all...

"Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula? I mean, they’re charging a lot of money for this stuff." -- Barack Obama

(Drove by the petrol pumps lately there Barack? I guess I should count my blessings that my car I HAVE to drive in order to earn my tax money doesn't run on Arugula?)

Vote Obama in November for lower costing herbs and spices!! WOOT!

"Arugula? How's that taste with Geritol?" -- John McCain

Then what's all this? asks Kingfish

I empathise Chip but it's not so simple I think, where do you draw the line? It would be nightmare for the mods to figure out what to close and what not to.

I was a mod once, and admin made some rules like that, and the members attacked the mods for not sticking to the "Forum Charter". It backfired horribly.

Say no more

banning politics is NOT a good idea. I was admin of a forum that did this, and it really killed alot of decent discussion.

I think the general rule of any forum should be:

if its trolling, hateful, whatever, ignore it or report it. Dont feed it.

use your own discretion.

Aren't any of you others curious as to why he started this thread now??

I mean you, Bebop, start it off with a provocative title like that, almost as striking as Larry's from last month, and then just follow it with.....

Iraq, Afganistan, Korea. Georgia.
I mean if you need to rant or vent or something so be it.
If your pissed cuz someone you care about was killed or injured in the war, understandable.
But you kinda took a big "political" (cuz that's all those examples are) board smacked a bunch of people in the back of the head, than said..let's discuss it.
Iraq - a mistake (maybe led by US but done by Allied Forces)
Afganistan - a necessary retaliation against the Taliban and Al-Quida
Korea (or Iran)- It's WIDELY viewed that NO-ONE (other countries) in the world wants or are OK with those countries having nuclear capabilities.
Georgia - A small county being invaded by the parent country they broke away from, and I'm sure it wasn't very nice or peacefully done, so the US gets up and says, we see ya, go back and play on your side of the fence and leave these kids alone.
I'm not always happy or thrilled about or agree with, the things our (US) political leaders decide to do. But significantly different than "rogue" countries through-out the world, the US doesn't just act without consulting NATO and other various political organizations whose goal is watchdogging the world. So most of the time it's a group decision, that the US acts on. A group that, by the way, includes England.

Well, I've been to parts of America: a fair chunk of the USA, some Canada and Mexico, and I must say that it is a beautiful continent, not sucking at all.

I haven't been to the rest of the mentioned countries, and although I am pretty sure that each must have its good points too, I do not really think that they suck any less than America as a whole.

For some reason I "Knew" my name would come up!

One thing I can say about this forum as a whole, it's a GREAT place to exchange a lot of ideas VERY quickly as everyone here is quite level headed and share a sort of bottom line principle. I say let's talk about what we "want" to talk about. When it gets out of hand, it's good entertainment, and it "just gets out of hand." I'm a firm believer that the world isn't affected by the rants of a few Cockos forum members!
