Default SIX YEARS for $60?!!

I just purchased a new V6 REAPER license and, out of curiosity, I checked my emails to see when I purchased my last license. It was SIX YEARS AGO! What other developer gives you that length of time between license renewals for a DAW?

Thank you devs for your consistent hard work, dedication, trust and amazing software!

Great stuff!

you don't have to upgrade, the license will last forever no need to renew

To be fair, Apple/Logic does, 6.5 years since I last had to pay a penny and still up to date. Plus in that time there’s been numerous sound libraries, plugins and instruments added.

Ditto to you both and I will only add Justin broke the mold as a humanoid and his lack for the love of money obviously and what an example he is setting for future generations if there is any.

We need examples like this as a society bigly (sic) right now. 😘

Comparing Apple and Cockos is hilarious but I think Apple is a slightly bigger organization and when the stockholders come looking,....look out. 😜

Yeah, they've got 4 guys doing their coding!

I've gotten 8 years and 3 months so far for my sixty bucks.

Last money I paid was when I upgraded to REAPER 4 from REAPER 3 back in August of 2011.

REAPER v2.108 - REAPER v3.78 3 years and 5 months - $50
REAPER v4.0 - REAPER v5.99 8 years and 3 months - $60

So I've gotten 11 years and 8 months for $110. That works out to a cool ten dollars (actually about $9.36) per year that REAPER has cost me so far.

This price is best in class.

Also note that because of Cockos generosity, this community is generous as its founders...
Imagin if they were marketing experts getting each and every dollar out of our pockets, do you really think we'd waste time beta testing for them and help each other ? I doubt it. But their generosity calls for it in return and its awesome.

Yes, I just noticed 5.99 was released today.
I also have received 8 years of use from my previous license purchase.
$60.00 is a steal as far as I am concerned.
I am more then happy to invest in a 6.0+ license.
Already received my new license key. Good stuff :-)

Well, however much it makes you laugh, fact remains that Logic IS incredible value for money, which is the point/question raised here. For commercial use it’s actually cheaper and comes with a complete suite of sounds, fx and presets.

It’s in no way negative to Cockos/REAPER to point it out.

You're bloody right, but Logic is available for macOS only, while Reaper is cross-platform.

Given Reaper licenses are always good for two versions of Reaper this is a question for those buying their Reaper license right now.

Are these latest licenses actually getting you to the end of Reaper 7.99?
Or is a current license only good up to the end of version 6.99 as the page still suggests?

Purchase a REAPER License
A new license includes free upgrades through REAPER version 6.99. There is only one version of REAPER. The license price depends on how you use it.

I wanted to ask something about this matter...

Is there no warning or nagging popup after the expiration date? Someone was asking me about this before.

Sorry... let me clarify... I meant after the demo period has expired. I get that the program would continue to work if you purchased a license. That doesn't surprise me (I guess lol)

6!? Looks like 5.99 to me. Anyways...

I plunked down my $60 in 2011. I'm still good 8 years on!

Thanks, Justin.

To be fair, I think FL Studio gives you lifetime updates. Doesn't it? If so, it's not a bad deal either. Although it's a much bigger upfront cost. Reaper is still a way better deal IMO.

Reaper will work regardless. License nag will be there for as long as you don't have a valid license.

If you purchase a license now, it is a v6 one and is good to 7.99.

Hmmm... I've just checked the Purchase link and it's not showing any indication that I'd be buying a license for v6... In fact, it reads that the purchased license would be valid until v6.99, which suggests that it's a v5.x license I'd be buying...

The website info needs to be updated. I used the purchase link two days ago to purchase a v6/7 license and am running it with the v6rc builds right now.

Yeah, even getting the link through the pre release 6 doesn't get you to a page that shows that currently (at the time of writing).

Too early to make conclusion. It exists two years and no signs of mass migration to it. Unclear how long it will stay developed.

Well then, FL Studio. Buy once, updates forever. Nobody can top that (only match it - but nobody is matching it so far).

Sorta depends what you want. Don't forget Reaper's full price is $225. And it comes with no instruments, per se, whereas FL Studio will have you covered with a decent amount of stuff, not just FX.

I meant no disrespect and you are right. Right now Logic is an incredible bargain and even my X-Touch controller works straight out of the box with Logic where Reaper is about 80 percent there.

However, my point is that Apple is currently giving Logic away in the hopes to snag you big time after you get hooked. Trust me Apple is as proprietary as it gets and I believe like Avid will eventually burn you sooner than later.

I trust Cockos long term based on all they have done as a corporation; it is in their DNA. Apple fergetaboutit.

That's great as long as the company doesn't decide to change the name and say it's a different product.

Incredible piece of free software that comes with a £4000 dongle.

Actually for every DAW you need a computer.
I left Logic and I use Reaper for six years now.
Very happy.

Haha, there is that small caveat.

I had the option of paying more thousands to apple or letting MS (Win 10) whore my persona information.

...I went the whore route and very happy, REAPER is a shining light in the DAW world for sure.

Came here to say thanks Cockos for that ridiculous price and a fantastic piece of gear.
Right now, after 90 days of "trial", i just payed my first Reaper license immediately without any doubts.

Default Amazing product for the price!

When 6.0 came out, I knew I'd have to pay for it. I wanted to pay but my wallet got lost and had to cancel two CCs. I just now paid and I felt GREAT ABOUT IT! Godz, with all the developers charging more for software than hobbyists can often stomach, it's nice to have a decent price and the time between payments cannot be more agreeable! I literally threw my $60 at Cockos and said take my money... PLEASE! But... I started using 6.0, 6.01 and now, some of my VSTs are very small and I cannot read them on my 65" TV running Win dows 10. Anyone know why the VST sizes suddenly shrunk? Or how can I make them larger so I can read them? 5.99 works just fine. Thanks!!!! TS
