I archive everything, and keep it all online on a Infrant ReadyNAS box... Then I back that up and keep offline copies on IDE disks...

When stuff's more than a few months old, I WavPack the source material, too..

And I use PathSync to sync everything..

well i'm a back up freak !!
i'm backing up to dvd then also storing offsite copies
at say a bank or with friends or whatever just in case my abode ever got compromised.
finally today i figured how to use the dvd back up sw that came with the dual amd. it actually worked very fast.
its just that if i could find something simpler to back up hard disk folders to dvd....
i dont agree with mr massenburg...lol.

I use DVD backups via Nero (simply create data file DVD) but - I always do a verify after burn. Trouble is, even with x16 DVDs, it takes a long time to do the whole thing. It really is tempting these days to use USB drives and simply pile them up in the cupboard, but then if any one drive goes down, that's a lot of stuff - too many eggs in one basket perhaps.

Another little tip - here, I work on lots of relatively small projects (one per concert, sometimes 2 or 3 concerts per week) - so each DVD holds several concerts in wavpack form - I have a simple text file in which I list the DVD number and what's on it, and I can simply search the list to find where any given project is filed. Example -

DVD11
Christchurch Sedvika 02-05-2004
David Hobson Readings
Orchesta Victoria 16-03-2004
Melba Sedvika 25-04-2004

The list sits on the PC, but also, each time I burn a DVD I burn the up to date list onto it too, so there is little chance of the list becoming lost (which would mean that I had no idea where everything is). The DVDs I just label with their number and put into a DVD tub in number order. I guess if there was a fire I would just grab the tub before running out of the house. (OK, maybe I'd grab Mrs Evans too). All simple but effective.

good ideas art.
ive been includeing a simple notepad text file also includeing mix notes/lyrics etc.
yep i tried usb route. too many.
i was wondering as an added precaution for back ups are there any net sites that let one store data for free...??
trouble is some projects might be a lotta megs.
so upload time becomes an issue perhaps on big projects.
