A way to link Marker/Regions to a track?
Hi,
Imagine 10 tracks and having 10 specific Regions/Markers for each of them...I think you can imagine the visual mess that would create in the Arrange window with 100 Regions and Markers!
Is there a way to have Regions/Markers linked with a track so that you only see the Region/Markers of the selected track(s)?
Or something giving a somewhat similar result. Just a way of reducing the visual mess of too many Region/Markers in the Arrange window.
Thanks!

Something similar... take markers. You can put markers on the items, or rather the takes but for single take items the distinction can be disregarded.

Yes! That's a very good option...for Markers but when it comes to Regions, it doesn't help unfortunately.

I haven't had a need for something like this often enough to justify paying for the feature...not yet at least.

For "track regions"... you could maybe use automation items in a creative way, depending on what it is that you really want to do.

I wouldn't know how to implement that...sounds more like a job for a reascripter but thanks for the suggestion.

No, I meant adding empty automation items just to denote the "track regions". This could work, depending on what you really want to do.

Ok, gotcha. It's an idea but I'm afraid it's way too limiting. Regions obviously have their functionality which I use frequently.
Thanks for the suggestion!

What region functions are you using ?
You may be able to script them to selected track ?

Pretty much all of them: Copy/Move/Snap to/Navigate Regions with our without it's content and all the actions using those features.
Seeing how many other threads on this topic are on the forum and often posted by very skilled reascripters, I doubt there's a viable, efficient workaround that has been missed...but I could be wrong

You should be able to do all that with a GUI

I don't understand what that means?
But anyway, although I can see from your gif that you are apparently replicating the Region functionality using your method...you're also replicating the problem I'm trying to address in this thread, i.e. the hiding/unhiding of Regions along with it's associated track.
Have you been able to solve that too in a simple way?

Right...but that's not implementation I was looking for (and others too).
In your gif, you have to manually hide/unhide each tracks' Regions individually.
Imagine if you have have a dozen or more tracks how tedious, slow and confusing that can be. Sometimes you wouldn't even know which Region belong to which track (matching track and region colors could help of course but there's another extra fairly long process to achieve a workaround).
As I said, ideally you just select a track and boom...it's Regions appear. Deselect, they disappear. Easy & fast.
Anyway, really appreciate your efforts to help!

If you don't really want it or think it's impossible then it is.
But, But, But, But... I just do what I need and it's done, I can't see any problem.
Track: Cycle folder collapsed state
SWS: Set selected folder(s) collapsed
SWS: Set selected folder(s) uncollapsed
I can do 150 tracks at once.
I'm going to bed now.
You can wait until maybe one day it will be implemented.

What I showed you will do what you want
" Is there a way to have Regions/Markers linked with a track so that you only see the Region/Markers of the selected track(s)?"
whatever track is selected it will it will uncollapse to show it's marker/region lanes, whatever tracks are not selected will collapse to hide their marker/region lanes.
You can take it further and whatever track is selected it will read the text items in the track folder and write them as real markers/regions, when another track is selected it will remove all real markers or regions then read the text items in that track folder as real markers/regions.
It will do this when the GUI is active, and the GUI can have any actions on it you need.
You just select a track and boom...it's Regions appear. Deselect, they disappear. Easy & fast.
Someone else maybe able to explain it better for you if that's as clear as mud.

WOW! Really? I have to try it then
But I'm confused when you say 'GUI'...what exactly are you talking about? (I know it means Graphical User Interface of course, I just don't understand in the context of this thread)

It's all working good, just got to make it so it will update any changes you make in the top marker/region track will write to the marker/region individual tracks:

WOW!! That's amazing! Incredible work you did there. You should definitely spread the word (I know I will ) around the forum because there are a lot other users looking for something like this!
I'm leaving for a few days but will give it a try as soon as I'm back on Monday.
Thanks, thanks, thanks!!

Here's a prototype to try, it will have bugs but you can try it out. Don't try it on any of you good projects, you can save the markers/regions from them then import into a test project.
There is a import regions markers merge to import marker/regions into a project with existing markers or regions.
The GUI will have to be fixed up and actions added.
The refresh update is set to .5 sec, you can speed it up, but see how that goes.
Code:
GUI.func = getselectedtrack
-- GUI.func will run on every loop
-- Use this to set the poll time in seconds:
GUI.freq = .5 -- .05
From here you will need to install Lokasenna GUI or via ReaPack
and run Library/Set Lokasenna_GUI v2 library path.lua
Right click Save Link/Target As
Marker region tracks GUI.lua

What happens, with hidden markers when you ripple edit the project?
This is the main reason why I think it's impossible to do as ripple all tracks also affects markers and should affect hidden ones too.
Otherwise you risk markers/regions being in the wrong place when shown again.

If they are saved when you save markers to csv then it could be made to save the regions/markers to track_number.csv to the project folder the same way it's currently saving to the child track.
Would that work ?

Has anyone tried that ? does it save the hidden markers in ripple editing to the csv ? as I don't use ripple edit so I'm not sure what you are doing.

I'm so sorry MusoBob! I feel terrible
Don't think for a second I'm ungrateful but I would like to have an hour or so to get familiar with this script to fully try it out and just haven't had the opportunity yet.
But trust me...I will, soon I hope

-Reinstallo la versione precedente 6.13 e Region/Marker Manager funziona come deve
Potete verificare ed intervenire?
