Default Help with firewire-chaining

My laptop has only one FW-port. I want to use my LaCie-FW-drive with my M-Audio FW1814. How to chain them, without frying anything?

I've chained a drive off the extra FW port on my 828mkII without problems.
I think a better scenario would be to use an additional FW controller via a PCMCIA adapter.
I didn't have that option, as my laptop has no built in FW.

I just used my LaCie as USB, because I was getting clicks and pops when I chained it with FW1814

I was able to record with 64 samples easily, I did a quick take also, beginning of my own song
