Any way, what I'm finding with pedals is that the more of them I have, the less music I make, spending too much time mucking with pedals. And that foundation tone that I love gets more and more mucked up with the addition of each pedal. But I do like what some people do with strings of pedals, as exceptions.

On the other hand, that Tone Press pedal you suggested is on pretty much all the time. That and my TS-9 are pretty much my go to pedals anymore.
It's about finding one's own way for sure - point being many people (not you guys) never do because they never knew how certain pedals were designed to interact, or how they end up interacting and they always end up using them in some sub-optimal situation then blame it on the pedal.
There are so many classic great records recorded with pedals somewhere in the chain, it really shouldn't be an issue finding a usable pedal or non-pedal tone. Speaking of guitar related toys... I have a new addition I'll post pics of in a little while...
I have a DS-1 somewhere, a particular guitar/pedal/amp combo I had in the 90s, it was farking great with at the time. These days it's 80% Strymon Sunset or my own version of the old Gretsch "electra distortion" circuit.

Now that you've got the same guitar as this guy, does your Strymon sound like this too:
Getting back to what you said earlier about the other items in the chain, I doubt that if I got one of those pedals I'd get the same tone he's getting. But it's still an awesome pedal.

Yea pretty much from the minute I just listened.

It really is, I was skeptical but it has stayed on my pedal board and I never seem to think about my tone on stage which is a great sign. Right now I have it setup so that the left channel is "Texas" and the right channel a FET boost.
I made a "Fave" TRS switch that goes beside it which allows me to switch between left/rigth but if I use the clean switch instead of the fav switch then the clean becomes a boost in front of the dirt channel which is damn convenient. Gives me clean/dirty/hotter louder dirty.
