Default Delaying a Delay (Pre-Delay ?)

I want to achieve this:

Code:
X = original signal
x = 8th note repeat of original signal
. = silence

X...xxxx
Using ReaDelay (or any delay VST, really), if I set the delay time to 1/8 note, I get this:

Code:
Xxxxx
What's the best way to insert silence between the original signal and the delayed signal? Should I just add a second instance of ReaDelay that delays the 8th note delays by three 8th notes? Or is there a better way?

Are there any free/cheap delays that provide a separate pre-delay time to do this?

I'd think you could do something like the following. I don't know exactly how to do this, but I'm pretty sure it can be done.

Send your dry audio to a track with an instance of ReaDelay set to a half note (assuming I counted your dots correctly), all wet, no dry.
Mute the master output of delayed track.
Send this track to a second track with a separate instance of Readelay with your 1/8 note taps.

Edit: maybe you could do this on one track with just two instances of ReaDelay. If it works it would be a lot simpler; you could either put it on the track you need it on, or set up a folder if you need it on multiple tracks.

Another option would be to duplicate your track, offset it by a half note, and add the 1/8 note taps to that track.

Maybe someone else has a more elegant solution, but your request seems doable.

I think it can be done with 1 instance of ReaDelay and 4 taps.

Use multiple taps instead of feedback.

Or use two instances of ReaDelay. first one delays the signal, second one repeats the delayed signal on 8th notes, use feedback on this one.

Edit - tested, seems to work. Second version would be best in parallel, no dry signal.

Thanks! I didn't think about using multiple taps.

However, I think using multiple instances of ReaDelay (on one track) is the better option for my purpose.

I just wasn't sure if there was something even better. This seems like something that would be a useful feature in any delay.
