May have been due to a lossey USB cable. Had a 5' changed to 6" and it behaves better. ( Not perfect but much better ). Never had the lightning symbol on screen but the sys log showed brief under voltage detected

There have been a number of Pi based super computer projects done quite successfully. I have about 30 or so Pis at my house that I intend to cluster together for lolz. I only have a single fully managed switch, so I won't be able to get them all on at the same time though. |

Must know your way around these things!
Rather you than me.. My enthusiasm for new pi4 dipped at about the time I tried a different OS and I'd inadvertently set the language to Ukranian.. ( topical I know Spent 45 min referencing Google images of the English version to locate the settings I needed to tweak... Then it wasnt in 1080p as my screen is, and had to research the hell out of that.. Each time I revisit Linux hoping that kind of faff is a thing of The past and.. nope! That's ok, just needs little more time on it.. maybe

An excellent idea! I did an apt update and apt full-upgrade on my perfectly functioning Raspbian Buster with XFCE desktop, and it blew it up where it would not boot on my Pi 4 but interestingly enough, would boot on my Pi 3 B+.
Fortunately, I have about five SDHC cards with different setups on them and just popped one of them in while I restored an image I had made using the "disks" app in Linux. Took 4.5 hours to restore 128GB to the SDHC card, but it works like it was working before I attempted to update/upgrade it. If you get a setup working real well on your Raspberry Pi I highly recommend backing it up with the "disks" app to an HD/SSD. Backing up takes about 4 times less time than restoring it back to SDHC. |

Reaper on RPi 4 4GB
The problem I had above came down to inadequate power. A new USB-C fixed that and now reaper opens OK. But I have an additional problem, sometimes no output.
I am running Raspbian 2020-05-02. I am using an "Audio Injector Octo" card. I have a shell script I have to run after every reboot that "mod-probes" that card so it will show up in "alsamixer" and after running it it shows as an available input and output in Reaper, Audacity, and VLC. The card always shows up in the "Reaper Preferences." Sometimes I get audio out and other times nothing. When I hit play Reaper shows levels but get no sound out of the card -- sometimes. If I close Reaper and open Audacity or VLC I always get audio out of the Octo card. Any ideas? |

Interesting looking little board. I've only experimented using REAPER on my Pi 4, and I temporarily hooked up the eight channel external USB rack mount audio device that I use with my desktop computer.
Is PulseAudio set to use the Octo Card? If so, set it to none or native on board analog audio so there's no chance of contention. |

I see that they recommend uninstalling Pulse. A quick search for issues with that device I did find a forum from the maker specifically for issues with that device.

Octocard
Been there did any/everything they suggest.
This seems to be only related to Reaper as every other audio program accesses the card properly and produces output reliably. |

Only other things I can think of would be to make sure you have REAPER set for a high buffer like 1024 or something, and a bit depth no higher than 24. Other than that, I would try both ASLA and JACK to see if one is better behaved.

Octocard, RPi 4 4GB
Depth is 24 buffer set to 1200. When it starts it works perfectly.
