Default Peter Gabriel multi-track masters available

Maybe you all know this but if not, you will be delighted...

Peter Gabriel has made available 3 songs from his "repertoire" un-mixed !

http://realworldremixed.com

Get an account there and grab:

1. Shock the monkey
2. Games without frontiers (Kate Bush fully isolated)
3. Not one of us

If you have the passion (excuse the Gabriel pun) and recreate the original mix, feel free to share your REAPER projects.

Maybe a fun cexperiment could happen: Use only stock JS and Cockos VST plugins to make your mixes... Are you better than Steve Lillywhite ?

This is great stuff from the man himself!

So how do you get the wave files into their correct relationship. Most of them are shoved out at 17000 bars or something if you try to use the repaer command to place in the right relationship ???

Seems that the timestamp from pro tools is wierd. Tried a couple both had the same probem in both Reaper and Sonar.

That's one of the reason I post the link, hoping someone would post the REAPER project file (without media) so everyone starts from the same project or so.

Legit, real and blessed audio files from Gabriel. I knew I had a winner link...

Awaiting your mixes !

For those who downloaded some of these packages, are they raw, untreated tracks or they are the processed tracks (eq'd, compressed, etc) that you just remix?

The raw, untreated tracks is what interest me most: How did it really sound before all the processing went in. That, to me, would be THE learning and comparison tool par excellence.

Downloaded all the Peter Gabriel tracks. Sounds like all the processing/ bouncing is already done so there would be no chance of recreating the originals from scratch.

Ok, thanks. That's what I needed to know. Really great that RealWorld is offering this to play with, but it does limit its appeal for me as a learning tool. Hopefully, at one point, the raw tracks will be available. Now this would float my boat: How the hell did that track or this track sounded in the beginning.

are there any other resources that offer unmixed tracks like that? I've always been interested in dissecting songs to analyze them and try to recreate their sound.

Hi

Just registered when I saw this post so I could reply. I was looking for some similar stuff, i.e. unprocessed multitrack sessions. I didn't find anything by anyone I knew, but stumbled across this site:
http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk.htm

Although I have not imported any of this into Reaper yet, I think they are unprocessed. No big-name artist from what I can tell, and probably from smaller studios (project- or home studios). But there may be something here - I'm downloading some anyway :-)

BR,
Michael

What am I missing? I registered and downloaded "Games
without Frontiers" (one of my fave PG songs).... but all the
files are SHORT... like REALLY short - 20 seconds per track.

Is that what they mean by "sample pack"? I thought this would
be the whole song... or am I just being stupid and not seeing
an obvious link to "download entire song"?

Default Multitracks: The Sequel

http://petergabriel.com/media/articl...usictiles-app/

he MusicTiles app allows everybody - novices, musicians, and expert composers - to remix songs in a playful manner using virtual modular tiles. In a 25-years celebration of the iconic So album, Peter granted RoboProfessor Henrik Hautop Lund unparalleled access to his multi-tracks and stems to create a So 2.0 experience that allows fans to create MusicTiles mixes.

Default Good Lesson In Arranging Too

This Gabriel mix is a good lesson in arranging too.

I have many clients who submit a song with a vocal and kick panned up the middle, and a stereo synth or two. Then ask why their mix is thin and narrow. Ha!

The "Shock The Monkey" song has 7-8 synth tracks that play continuous throughout the song, and another dozen or so instruments that play part of the time or come in and out. Pan them all over the place and you have your thickness and width.

I have them. They are not stems, just a whole bunch of short and long audio files. It would be quite some work to put them together into something resembling the original arrangements (which is why I never tried it).

Games Without Frontiers are 48/24 wav
Not one of Us are 16/44.1 wav
Shock the Monkey are 160 kbps mp3

I'm not sure how legit it is to share this here, so I don't...

Thanks for setting the record straight! I deleted my rambling about the Rock Band stems since this is not the case with these.

The link above is what I was rambling about before though FWIW.
