MMC Not working?

I have a KMI softstep that I'd like to use as a midi machine control for transport.

The midi device is enabled in the preferences and I set it as the input for an HUI control device, but the MMC commands arn't registering in reaper, they are set to machine ID 1.

I can get CC controls to work, but I'd like to have it work on the MMC controls. Is there a place to set the device id of reaper?

Ok, I got stop play and record working (preferences>midi device> enable and enable control messages), but the pause command isn't working. I can see the midi message happening in a channel meter but it doesn't have an effect on the transport.

It it really OK to activate the Midi device at all ? I know (and tested) that with CSI, the Midi device needs to be deactivated.
