Default WHY? Reaper is functionally on par for OSX but not performance wise (yet)...

Hi All
So is reaper as good on osx as it is on a pc? I read this in another post. ( Reaper is functionally on par for OSX but not performance wise (yet)... )

Not good to hear that sort of thing if we intend to switch to Reaper!

Cheers

McPC's (a Mac that is) pretty much have the same hardware as, well, a PC. Open up a Mac and you're looking at, well, a PC.

Any differences in performance come not from Reaper but from any limitations and/or differences in which the OS has. Sure they may be some different code branching for Mac vs PC but it wouldn't be done by programmer choice but rather forced by the OS and it's relative API.

[Apologies to any Mac users who take offense calling them "McPC's"]

Reaper on OSX uses slightly higher CPU consumption for GUI and operations.
its a 1-5% difference on my i7q MBP(based on number of tracks used).

Otherwise it runs perfectly once all the playback and buffering settings are set up correctly.

I have cca 30 tracks with 50 plugs(ReaPlugs, Lexicon LXP and some Waves) running at 9% CPU with 1024 buffer setting.

If you compare the performance to Logic it is slightly worse, but that is because Logic has a constant buffer setting and changes to lower buffer settings only for the input armed tracks-however this causes only one CPU core usage, which can cause cpu overloads. Overloads in Reaper are more rare.(at least on my system).

Comparing to Protools 9 (not HD or HD Native) the CPU performance is much better.

Regards J
