Default Mix Magazine And Reaper

Reading the Nov, 2017 issue of Mix Magazine and Reaper gets a mention in an article titled, "DAWS DO IT ALL - What's New In Workstations. And I quote...

"Instrument-like, music-making DAWs - such as Apple's Garageband, Ableton Live 9, Propellerhead Reason 9.5 and FL Studio 12, and streamlined DAWs including Reaper 5.5 and Mackie Tracktion - further blur the lines between sound sources, traditional performance and production than ever before."

Streamlined? Are they trying to make Reaper seem like it is less than it really is?

I guess it depends on how you interpret the word streamlined. I read that as efficient, sleek and reliable. Perhaps that's not what they meant though. My memory of Mackie Traction was anything but efficient, sleek and reliable but that was ten years ago when I experimented a little with it.

I first used Cubase after hardware sequencing with the legendary MMT8. I found Cubase a disaster. Then I tried Tracktion 3, which was really super easy to learn.....but the bugs......horrible! Then I tried Reaper and now I know: easy and stable are possible! So I am to agree with Dave that streamlined would stand for efficient and reliable.

Music magazines are lightyears behind, they can write what they want, it is not the truth anyway.

I like digging in old magazines, sometimes, here a nice link:

It is always interesting comparing best sequencers, be it hardware or software. As software nothing can beat Reaper in terms of flexibility, power, programmability, ok but you do not get simplicity at first glance as you would get with Akai MPC60 by Roger Linn:

I agree with you ReaDave
Reaper has no bloat it is efficient smart and not coated with fuzzy's.
I was reading about another DAW yesterday on paper it had all the bells and whistles but most of the plugins where the ones half as good as their pro cousins.
Added half performing gear is a step back not a step forward.

Hehe....what a great peace of equipment that was. I like Reaper, but with the MMT8 I could make a rif in not much more than the time it took to record it. Quantise was easypeasy, and that is something I still do not have gotten the hang of it in Reaper. Maybe too much options to choose from?

You could use Sequetron by Phil Tipping as a front end to Reaper.

keyboard --> sequetron --> reaper

Record, loop, experiment in Sequetron, similarly as you have done in MMT8 for example. http://www.sequetron.co.uk/

Quote from Sequetron's Advanced Operation Guide:
Single trigger for record/loop/stop
Map the rec/stop function in live mode to the same key as the play function in
record mode. This single trigger key will then cycle through record, play/loop & stop.

I don't think so because it's referencing "Instrument-like, music-making" daws and "blurring the line between sound sources" so streamlined simply reflects that it doesn't come with as many built in instruments etc. as some of the others do. In that regard it would be an accurate, noncritical description.

The war between Mix Mag, reality, and journalistic integrity has been a long and bloody one

Thanks for the tip TonE. Tonight I spent some time watching a couple of video's from Sequetron but I think it is not quite as simple as the MMT8.
So I guess I stay with my Reaper since I fairly got used to it. The few occasions the quantize doesn't work as I thought it would, I will manually shift the notes in the right direction.
