Default Regular recurring crash on closing plugin UI window.

I sent an E-mail about this one a few months back, but I figure I may as well report here also.

On an M1 mac running Big Sur, Reaper regularly hard crashes when closing certain plugin UI windows. I've seen it crash with Surge XT and with FabFilter plugins, possibly some others too.

I ran this by the Surge Synth Team and FabFilter as well.

Attaching a crash log.

I have very little knowledge about anything Mac, but looking into that crash log, I see (lines 43-46):
Code:
Thread 0 Crashed:: reaper Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread\
0   ???                           	000000000000000000 0 + 0\
1   org.surge-synth-team.surge-xt 	0x000000014ae7bf9c juce::ModalComponentManager::handleAsyncUpdate() + 420\
2   org.surge-synth-team.surge-xt 	0x000000014ad39f8c juce::MessageQueue::runLoopSourceCallback(void*) + 256\
So I would guess that Surge XT has something to do with the crash.

On Windows we can set FX to run in their own process so that if they crash they do not bring down Reaper. If that setting is available also on Mac, try it.

Yeah in this case that was the culprit. I've seen the same thing with other plugs too though.

Like I said, I ran it by the Surge Synth Team, and someone there suggested it's a JUCE timer not terminating correctly. Which would explain why some plugins (JUCE ones) cause this crash but not others.

Can't claim to understand exactly what that timer thing entails, maybe it's just on the plugin devs side. But in case it's worth looking at from the host side too, I submitted it here.

As a work around for now, try setting those FX to run in their own processes, then they wont bring Reaper down with them when they crash.

Will look around for that option, thanks!
