You got me there. Yes, a bad choice of words on my part! Still, while I think the plugins are excellent, it's just a shame that they were made with SynthMaker, which is discontinued. It seems they will never be updated again.

It was a bit weird watching him decline donations, not charge for the plugins in any way, yet also support them with bug fixes and updates...but then draw a line in the sand saying "this is where they end" (metaphorically). I'd have to guess he made money elsewhere. It's hard to imagine his collaboration with Tokyo Dawn Labs provides much income.

As can be seen on here, there are plenty of people out there who are happy to help others for free.
Giving to your community isnt exactly new, although it may be seen as a debased currency by some cynical people.

I didn't mean to come off as cynical. Just frustrated by the limited availability of some excellent tools. I'm glad others can use them!

Hi everyone, I thought I'd add here a little comment regarding the Variety of Sound / VoS / Bootsy plugins. I recently started having 'drop outs' with these plugins on Reaper 64bit. Determined to keep using them and find a solution, I tried the Reaper Manual suggestion of setting these x86 plugins to 'Dedicated Process', and then re-opened Reaper. Bang, problem solved, glitch free usage. I hope this work-around can help other Windows users wanting to keep these plugins in the 64bit environment.
As a general comment, it is indeed a shame that Patrick is no longer continuing the development of these very special plugins. His Stateful Saturation innovation has no parallel in the digital domain, in my limited opinion. I've been able to get some beautiful mixes using this approach to dynamics management, and it would be brilliant if they were upgraded to 64bit, but what will be will be.
I'm open to the advice of any experienced users who can point out some 64bit dynamics processors that have a sound that is as good as or better than the Stateful Saturation in the VoS plugins. Density and SlickHDR will be hard addictions to give up.
Cheers and best of luck with all your projects.

Checked in to vst4free.com recently and found several newly uploaded VSTi synthesizers from a developer called 'KBplugs'.
Link: KBplugs
The developer makes no claim that they sound like the originals but the few I have tested works like them. Fun to play around with, well made and should be appreciated as instruments in their own right.
Made with SynthEdit and some have issues with that.

Just a few lines to express support and recommendation for AirWindows. Those plug-ins are indeed amazing!
Yes, some are bizarre or straight out weird (and sometimes therefore kinda useless or pointless to have) BUT then again, the others... WOW.
Special mentions to Pressure4, Channel4, Density and Drive. Their Lowpass and Highpass are the best sounding filters I've heard in my life.

Highpass is so useful. It's not what I'd thought it would be. I don't care about using high pass filters in EQ plugins anymore (or how steep the curve is) since this works better, has more control. (I appreciate Lowpass as much too.)
Pyewacket has proven to be more flexible than I'd have imagined. It has so few controls but to my surprise it allows for different responses to different source material. I had to get accustomed to how it works. When I combine it with a "clean buss compressor" in series, I can get just about any kind of compression response I want.
I started contributing to his Patreon. I hope to hear what he does for reverb. Some of his AU reverb plugins sound very good in his demo videos.

Are these plug-ins free?

Funny, I was just about to ditch Pyewacket as it didn't do much for me. Neither does Thunder.

Actually, they are. You can't buy anything from AirWindows anymore, not even the past AU plug-ins, but you'll have to wait til he gets them as 2016/2017 VST AU versions. All he's got now is freeware but supported thru Patreon.

Thunder is overkill for me. It gets out of hand too quickly for my tastes. Point is another one which just messes with my stuff too much.
After I realized Pyewacket was useful to me, I would try dialing in settings in other compressor plugins (ones that had some pumping/breathing, some noticeable "movement" and not just "clean compression") that I thought I couldn't get in Pyewacket. Then I compared again and gave it an honest try, and proved myself wrong. The toughest part was getting used to how Pyewacket works. I couldn't think of it in terms of how I'd dial in other compressors, so I initially assumed it wasn't that flexible. Then I got a bit more patient with it and realized that the +/- setting ranges (or left/right of center) allowed for more flexibility than I realized. Sometimes if you set one slider to its "-" range and another slider to its "+" range, you get a very different kind of response. This is one of those plugins. Chris uses the plugin a bit differently from how I use it actually. I do tend to dial it in for some pumping/breathing, but then also blend the wet/dry control of Reaper for the plugin for parallel use. Then if I need more "clean compression" I add another compressor in series. I love how that approach works.
Knowing how "release" can affect the overall reaction speed of the compressor, and how the input gain (+ or -) affects the response, is critical. It seems unintuitive at first but then when you get it, you go "oooohhh" and it's a lot easier to dial in next time.
As for which of his plugins are free: all his current releases are free. Prior releases which are only AU are either unavailable or maybe can be purchased. On his Patreon feed I noticed someone asking for a prior plugin (only AU) and he agreed to sell it to the person. He's steering toward his new "all free and Patreon-supported" model but apparently can still be convinced to sell one of his prior plugins if you don't mind it's still AU only.

VST 4 Free - Beware!
Most of you probably already know, but I thought I'd throw it out there - "VST 4Free" has a lot of cool freebeez to offer, but BEWARE, Webroot has blocked a few of the really choice downloads as a result of mal- or adware contamination.
Pitty, there was a really cool rototom plugin that sang to my 80's adventures...
If there are any other free or reasonably priced sites out there, sans threats, please share...

@bladerunner
Cool! will definitely check them out.
I see the Dead Duck Synth VSTi are based on the MDA ones.
I wonder if the FX are based on the MDA FX as well.

Did a quick test.
This might finally be the free x64 replacements for the Kjaerhus plugins I've been looking for. Will do some critical test later to confirm, but so far it's ticking all the boxes.
Simple interface, quick to use, transparent (enough for me, anyway) and no license key or registration nonsense so it can travel with the Reaper portable install.
Love the Channel strip.
Thanks, bladerunner

Kjaerhus plugs are classical effects and these are modern ones. I don't think they'll replace kjaerhus.

Maybe, Maybe not.
The Dead Duck plugins seem to be a good x64 substitution at least.

Do you remember this EQ? http://soundbytesmag.net/sb-plugins/ If you click UI button, you can use some locked buttons. Enjoy.

So I started cleaning out my plugin folders. I have hundreds of instruments ...

Thanks so much for this AWESOME list ! I'm so glad I started using Reaper as it led me onto this post. I've fished around for various plugins and synths before (more like thrashed around to be honest !) and the sound quality I was encountering was not very encouraging. But quite a few of the picks are real GEMS for me. EXACTLY the sound I was looking for in a few circumstances. Cheers

Full Bucket Music have updated their MonoFury to v.2.0.0. (32 and 64 bit).
This is a KORG Mono/Poly clone.
For some reason Reaper x64 crashes... others might have better luck.

I was in contact with the developer and after a few iterations back and forth, with my feedback on how to produce the errors in Reaper, he found the problem and promptly released v2.0.1.
It's a fun Synth and the developer cares about his creations.
