Default connecting MIDI keyboard causes other connections to drop out

I realise this is probably not exactly a reaper problem, but it may have happened to others so maybe someone could help. basically, when I connect my keyboard via a USB/MIDI cable it causes my interface connection to die (and my USB mouse) which can only be brought back by restarting the computer.

it used to work and perhaps there is a magic way of attaching the USB cables that allows me to record MIDI and audio from the keyboard at the same time (i have done this in the past) - but right now it is causing me no end of headaches.

Listing your o/s and the gear you are connecting might help.

ok, it's windows 10, keyboard is a roland FP4 (MIDI transmitted via a USB cable). interface is a zoom r16 and mouse is a generic usb mouse.

I have a feeling that the keyboard must be connected before anything else (no idea why) but I'm sure it didn't used to be that way.

edit: I tried connecting the keyboard before anything else and it all seemed to be working fine (track was receiving MIDI from the keyboard). but it only last a couple of seconds and then it all crashed again. infuriating!

Are all of these USB devices connected directly to USB-ports on your computer?
Or are multiple of these USB-devices connected to a single external USB-hub (in case you're using one)?

In your windows 10 power options, check the way your OS powers the USB devices.

they're all connected to individual USB ports. perhaps a hub would help.

Check the Power plan Settings and USB Port power settings (chapter 4.5. Energy Options) to see if this makes any difference: https://support.native-instruments.c...dio-Processing

I've no idea what I did but everything works fine now. I apprehensively tried to plug in the USB the other day, while jamming with a friend, and it worked perfectly. it seems like a few niggles have occurred since updating to 5.62 but it's hard to pin down exactly what because things usually resolve themselves after a restart
