So, here's my first attempt at a theme - and not an original one at that - it's just the 'Nuendo-ish' theme in the installer seemed to me to be so unlike Nuendo (as I know it), it was worth doing it again... So here's the Nuendo colours!

Hopefully I haven't broken any UI rules here...

Default about 'color theme support and cosmetic updates' of v0,956

I don't think i need to make a new thread to talk about it. The mega them ethread looks a nice place.

I have started making some Reaper Themes using the new ability of customizing more colors.
It is nice, but when working with dark color schemes, the arrows, curors, some icons, the track zoom arrows and some more little things look really... well... not fantastic !
I guess it was graphic items made to work with the standard grey gui, and do not work with the new skinz hype...

I would have liked to know if some day, as it seems to be the 'plastic surgery time' for Reaper (might it be called "carver" then, among niptuck fans ?), we'll be able to deal with better customizing controls over arrows and the other dissidents graphic items ?

Well, for whom interested in so terrible GUI,mostly made for fun and to check out the new fanciness of themes support, here is 2 skins i have made.

The first might suit for the ones who enjoy cutting wood in canada, and the other one for the nostalgics of the 340x230pix & 256 color old computer screens..; !

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485559...ods-orange.png
http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485559...yes-bleed).png

I also tried to make a "dark" theme, using one skin someone once made (i guess it was called "grey" ?? sorry for the author, i'll edit and credit as soon as i will find the original skin for v1) and EnergyXT skin.
This is where i realized some things could not fit with non-standard windows light grey skins :

this is a comparison between Ext & Reaper using the skin i "enhanced" from someone else's skin :

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485560...early-Ext).png

This is now where Reaper is weak :

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485561...-good-skin.png
(the "resize tracks" arrows doesn't handle alpha transparency, the "efx off" icon is not very readable, and the "internet epxlorer style" scrollbar aren't very pretty...

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485562...ursors-&-a.png
here a comparison between EnergyXT (above) and Reaper (below) standard scrollbar.

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485562...aders-&-ic.png
.. and also EnergyXT's handling of vumeter, faders, transport & recording icons is better in my opinion (smoother, and you can have many visual informations in a smaller space without making it "crowded"...) ;

I will get into an Ableton's Live theme (i know, emulation is very geeky, and i better should make my own, but i'd like to see how Reaper can look, compared to the other DAW i like better the GUI, and if it is possible to make REpaer's new skins features to match those criteria better)...

i get the impression from the irc channel that they are working on some new theme stuff for 0.957 so I am holding off releasing my updated themes just yet

(as an aside, I am starting to "version number" my themes to match which release of Reaper they were made with, helps keep track of which is the latest version of my themes)

Default FR : Eyedropper (or number) for making themes

Other litle little little FR : an "Eyedropper" tool for making THemes quicker would be very handy, or, at least, the ability to hit the "hexa number" of the color...
This way would could copy one color from somewhere on the screen (for example, to swap some colors)...

Ok

I have made a quick Theme based from Ableton Live's GUI.
http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485609...ableFake03.png

But i also made a "whitey" theme.
http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485609...K_Whitey01.png

I have wrapped it in a bundle you can download here (4 skins : the "make my eyes bleed one" for the masochists, the "in the woods" one, the "Whitey" one, and "AbleFake").

http://stashbox.org/uploads/11485609...2005%2006).zip

I still think that, if possible, it woudl be very nice to be able to choose a custom color for each clip, in order to locate them more easily, even if they are on several tracks, everywhere in the song.

I have spent some time making themes, and had also an idea.
One handy thing kood be to put an "expand" icon near to the zoom track, to automaticcally increase the screen size dedicated to the tracks, when you don't need to see most of the info relative to the vumeters, or if the efx are on/off.
One single clicking on the "expand" icon would make back the screen in its previous state.

Here is a gif animation of what i'm saying, stashbox will be better than my bad english in trying to explain what i'm saying.

I would also request custom scrollbar (i think this is not much hard to do and doesn't take any ressources, as it is a basic trick that can be applied on any javasript webpage, and quite like customizing every other part of the color scheme...)

So now that v0.956/7 supports colors of the main window, people want to update their earlier themes and post them here? At some point I'm going to remove all the themes in the dist and only post the newer update ones.. So, post them following here and I'll harvest for the dist..

P.S. I think fairly soon I'll make it so you can change the icons/fader bitmaps/vu colors in the theme, so we'll essentially have skin support..

Nice nice nice
I have posted 4 skins today.
The one i like the most is the 'Whitey' one.

And, what about a skin dedicated page on the site, like you already do for projects ?
It would make the .exe even lighter (i guess i had understood the file size was a real preoccupation for you).
That way, people could download only the skins they like (we just woudl need a preview thumbnail, like we already do with stashbox and this thread).

Again a nice news !
Will icons, faders, etc. be embedded in a single file ? (in order to be able to share more easily the skins) ?
And is it possible to include a font ?

thanks

Would you have any preview of the updated versions ?
What would you think of a dedicated page for the posted skins ? (i don't know if it is what Justin planned, but a simple webpage with direct link to .zip file and thumbnail is a bit easier than reading 123564 pages of post to find broken/outdated links...)

to make pictures available, just go to www.stashbox.org , there you can upload files. It is very easy, no inscription required.

Well, I don´t actually know how to do a screendump in the first place! Kinda embarrasing, but I have never had any cause to do it. Searched the net, but didn´t find any faq about it. Geez, I´m sorry guys - I´m a musician, not a technician.

or get a good free image viewer such as Irfran View ( http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967 ) that allows you to make screenshots / with a lot of save options etc.

Default Stupid learns something new.

There you go! I looked on the keyboard and thought for myself "Is there actually a button called print screen!!??". You learn something new everyday. This is a view of the song I upploaded a few days ago, by the way. You know the one made by my little brother.

The more I work with Reaper colour schemes, the more plain I want the scheme to be. I don't find alternating track item colours to be very useful - I'm much more interested in an at-a-glance picture of which items are selected and which are not, and I want to see precisely where the loop selector is at all times, and I want to see as few colours competing for my attention as possible, unless they are different for a reason.

So, I give you the Plain theme - deeply boring but highly practical (IMHO).

Use Alt+PrintScrn to capture, paste into MS Paint or PhotoFiltre, save as a .PNG image (max. compression) and that's it.
Best of all,PNG is lossless and the filesize is smaller than JPG for this type of images

For viewing,XnView is the king.

One more in the dark and solid Reaper by Night Series: Altec Green. Thanks to Justin for giving color control of the middle and the pain on the right which is getting closer to being just the pane on the right.

I hope justin gets time to allow user changes to the VU meter colours. I find them a bit too N-Track as they are.
Part from that - nice work lads with those themes so far...

DB markings at least when you make them full sized would be nice too.

When recording in Reaper I've noticed my levels seem to be low sometimes because it's harder to get a feel for the meters, in Audition I have no problem getting a very dynamic guitar or bass track to peak at like -3db and not have overs.

A sober theme called Babar:

The somewhat more interesting Bone Machine theme:

And since I'm a father of two little kids, I made a Kids theme for a future generation of REAPER fans :

That one looks like a Vegas ripoff, but the Vegas icons look great
I wonder why everyone still uses the "floppy" icon for Save? Isn't the floppy extinct by now? Hmmm...

honest, those icons are cool (switch the purple..for white) .. althoug i like the default icons too, gives that raw look that i love.., the only icon i don´t like is the main icon, the program icon (reaper.exe) .., ain´t sure if i read somewhere or it was request, possibility to change icons when skining, ..i would not enjoy it , let just be the colours that we can change, no need for more (my opinion)..
