Chord and scale marker in MIDI editor
To have an auxiliary tool in songwriting and composing, a corresponding marker in the MIDI editor timeline would be useful. This marker would be able to snap MIDI notes to different chords and/or scales written in a reascale.

If you click on the "Marker", you could select the root note from a dropdown list as well as select the chord or scale from a reascale. Plus a checkbox to snap the MIDI notes to the chord/scale grid.

For a key change in a song, for example in the last chorus, a scale marker could be very useful to adjust MIDI notes.

that does look pretty neat, but only maybe as part of a bigger kind of featureset w like a chord track

A chord track is perhaps too complex and tedious to program. A quick solution in the MIDI editor would be enough for me for the beginning.

that is a ridiculous argument. Perhaps some may not need to know this, but in any situation, easier visualization and snapping and outlining can be VERY helpful in a creative situation where the "logic" brain doesn't always engage.

This looks very complex and complicated. Honestly, I don't like importing scripts and reaper settings from other people. It also doesn't suit my workflow to have so many toolbar buttons. I'm hoping for REAPER to get a feature built in that is simple, intuitive and quick to execute.

Yes ... I agree. also in my opinion ED-Midi lacks several functions that could be integrated. It's a composition section ... like a pentagram.

Complex and complicated ? It's ONE script !
ReaTrak snap midi takes in selection to chords.lua
but if you don't like importing scripts from other people you can make your own.
I hope that theme didn't come from another user.
Or RapidComposerVST if you don't mind importing VSTs from other users.
Full Screen

Your script is genius MusoBob! Is it available on Reapack?

Would be great to have this or any other form of MIDI scale quantization and visual guide. Built in to Reaper, not some script or mod.

It's a good idea, but I'd prefer not only in the Midi editor but in the transport bar for example showing the Midi-in data (individual notes or chords).
The old Logic 5.1 in 2002 did it... I guess it shouldn't be so difficult.

I vote for something simple like this. Just having the chords showing up while playing was so nice in Logic. I'm missing that.

About Scripts etc.
There are a few people here who have expressed concern about installing external scripts. I understand the sentiment, and I felt that way when I first got Reaper many years ago. However, it is the scripts that give Reaper its power. If you are expecting all the features and functionality to be built in, you are really looking for a different DAW. A different kind of DAW.
I recommend you back up everything and take the plunge.
Start with ReaPack and SWS
https://reapack.com/
https://www.sws-extension.org/
As for Chord tools, there is the
ReaTrak (as mentioned above),
Lokasenna Theory Helper,
ChordGun,
Among others.
In other words, when Reaper Devs look at your request, they are likely to determine that it is a solved problem.
