Metronome Volume Help

I don't use Reapers metronome often and one reason is I have a hard time hearing the metronome without it clipping. I feel like I can never find a good balance between the volume of the metronome simultaneously with the volume of my performance. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for finding a good balance with the metronome and easily hearing it loudly (without clipping) while also being able to easily hear my live performance? Thanks for all help!

I think you can load a different sample but, I agree, the default one isn't the best.

The other weird thing about the metronome is that the two volume sliders don't seem to be independent. I kind of wish they were.
