Default Audio clipping

I use a combination of a Pearl Mimic Pro and Superior Drummer 3 to record my drum tracks. The cymbals are all from the Mimic Pro. I don't record these in MIDI but through the audio outputs. The cymbals quite often clip when struck through REAPER. Using the external audio configuration through the standalone version of Superior gives me no such clipping. It would lead me to believe there's something in REAPER that's causing this, but I can't imagine what. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

How much clipping? I think Fake Smile Revolution mentioned something about superior's output being hotter than -0.1 and turning it down.
