I would say it is probably ideally suited to such a group, and best with some teacher support available. REAPER is definitely the ideal choice of software, not least because it is an ideal fully-featured learning platform without breaking the bank.

I can't help you with group rates, though, as I have no influence over the company's distribution etc. arrangements.

It might be worth your while contacting some of the on-line suppliers such as Amazon to see whether they do group/educational discounts. Sorry I can't be more helpful with that one.
