Default WT's Imperial with yet more fader colors

thanks to WynD and WT...

I just added more colors to the layouts for tcp and mcp faders... maninly to match with my own Pastel Colors for the SWS colors that I use.

That set of Pastel Colors is on the stash as well... search for Pastel and you'll find it.

I had to up to the stash as two rar files otherwise the stash would not accept the upload.

here are the links, ...you need both files... you can read the info about this on the first file on the stash:

https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1044/WT...ers2.part1.rar

https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1045/WT...ers2.part2.rar

Lastly a note to WT... I did change your lovely trademark or whatever you'd call it on the Master... but if you want more changes there, I'm happy to do so... I greatly appreciate your masterful work WT and don't want to be offensive in any way.

EDIT: the rar's on the stash just updated today, Sept 12 2012... details explained on part 1, ... just some niggle repairs

Oh my.... this is becoming crazy!!!! But I love it! Thanks!!!

Eeeermmm... Everybody likes the white solo buttons better? Is it me the only who dreams about the black solo buttons for all the black panel variations? Love the blackface myself.

Personally not using Imperial since I only have one monitor, but your SWS color set is great! My colored tracks look a lot better now; more subdued and much more unified with the saturation levels. Thanks!

I have all black buttons in mine. It's really not hard, you just have to copy the black button images into the folders for each blackface layout. Otherwise it uses the white one from the default layout.

This is showing a weakness of WALTER, in that if I want to use this theme mod, then I have to give up any other mod that I'm using. So I can either have your theme or any other mod but not all of them.

If I'm wrong about this, please correct me and show me the error of my ways.

Hopi
I just downloaded and checked out your additional pastel faders.
Very cool. Thanks for including mine too. I like your pastel 2 color over my pink. My pink really isn't much different than the red.
I know it's not for everyone, but there definitely is some interest in both of our color fadered layouts.
Boy!!! the pop-up menu for layouts sure covers the screen now.

I had some weird stuff when I was first trying out your MOD. I went ahead and deleted the original theme folder and theme file and copied yours over.
When Reaper started up it was completely whacked out. White Tie's transport and everything was gone?????????
I just had to go into the preferences to tell the theme to use the correct folder for resources. No problem at all but never had to do that before.

WynD... happy mine is of some use to you... after all, without you doing yours I never would have even looked into it..

...and of course the real thanks is to WT for this huge and masterful piece of work... I hope you and other did get the latest rar's... I just changed them late last night [the 26th of Aug here in USA]

The first set I uploaded really had some mistakes..

You can tell right away since the newest has blue meters when playing.

I am not much good with Walter so I still have a few things I'd like to change but don't know what to look for:

In my newest mod, the big text for the time display [at the top window] is blue [you can tell I like blue, eh?] but the small text for rate and such is still that dark red...

Where is the control to change that red text to another color???

OH and yes indeedy... the layout menu is growing rather long ain't it... I'd think there should be a way to have it in sub levels, you know like a tree where you could pop out the list for each group to the right...

Now I'm also wondering about layouts for faders that would set both the tcp and mcp faders to a given color with one clk... not two clk's, you see? How would one set that up in Walter???

I did get the latest RAR's. I just downloaded in this morning.

I agree with you. It would be nice to somehow compact the layout menu somehow. And to change the MCP and TCP at the same time would be cool.
Within walter I have absolutely no clue if that is even possible.

But ... would there be a way to do that with toolbar buttons and actions????
Is there a way to gang up multiple actions on one toolbar button?? That would be cool if so. If anyone knows if it is possible and how to do it I would love to know.

Ooook... I understand now. I tampered a bit with the theme and found out why the white buttons are all over the place.

I think I'll make two separate versions. A whiteface and a blackface so the defaults don't force to have all the additional layouts in individual folders each. Plus the rtconfig.txt file will be way more simpler. Keeping the same layout names in the two theme versions allow to have the same Layout configurations for the toolbars and the Layouts window. Won't be posible to mix black and white channels within a theme but who needs that! In fact I only want the blackface version, but I'll have to live with a modded whiteface for now until I manage to merge here the Reno's no recording layouts in black. Gimme a year or so...

Hopi,
This is what I mean: if I load your theme with colored faders, how can I keep the separator tracks from Reno's theme too?

The separator tracks from Reno's theme ARE in my MOD. So by using my mod you still have the separator layout made by Reno.

I just figured out a way to do the one click thing for changing the MCP and TCP layouts at the same time.
It takes just a little preparation. But it all comes down to making your own custom actions. Something I just figured out how to do.
I have a toolbar now for just changing my layouts. In the VIEW SCREENSETS/LAYOUTS the total number of change layout actions is 20. So it is still a little limited but not too bad.
In the layout actions, on my computer, I have action #1 and #2 set up to change the layout to separator for TCP and MCP
By making a new custom action I drug both action 1 and 2 over, named it something that works for me, and then saved it.

Now when you edit your toolbar you can add that custom action. When I use the toolbar, that one button now changes both the layout for the MCP and TCP at the same time.
In the view screensets/layouts I have the default TCP and MCP setup to load one dominant colored fader, either black or gray. Then the rest of the actions completely cover the different color changes that I like to use.

Obviously this can be used for more than just changing the colored fader layouts, but for me, this is perfect!!!

Sometimes it takes me longer to figure this stuff out than others. But I usually end up getting there :-)

Thanks for your reply, WynD. But I also like Reno's folder tracks so I guess I will stick with his theme.

It's too bad the WALTER doesn't have the option for moders to over-ride existing features or add features to other mods without having to do it by hand; i.e., a WALTER editor with these options.

Tell you what.... give me a little while ....
Since I have all ready included Reno's separator track. Let me go back and I will put the rest of his MOD in with mine.
Plus..... the config file that I am currently using now ALSO includes Hopi's extra pastel colored faders.
SO.... once I upload... you will have all three MODs in one.
Reno's MOD with his extra layouts
Hopi's MOD with the extra pastel faders
and mine with my colored faders.

I'll post here once it is uploaded.

merdave

Check my newest thread for my Imperial MOD.
If I have done this correctly it should now include the folder layout you want.
Let me know if not and I will try to fix it.

I see Reno.thestaws has taken his links and screenshots off to change with respect to White tie. Until he has those back up, I won't have his layouts to add them if I don't have them in there all ready.

There is more detail in my other thread but I am making sure that I still give credit to both Reno.thestraws and Hopi for their work since I am using their MODs also.

Hi WynD... nice of you to take this all on... hey I don't need credit.. [but cash is always good... just kidding]

I'll look into that custom action method shortly... but a couple thoughts first:

I'll bet you noticed in the rtconfig that I did, I added a 0 before many of the layout name numbers... right? such as where a layout goes to more than 9 variations so the series goes 01, 02, etc then 10, 11, etc. This is important since otherwise in the layout menu things show up all over the place and are confusing.

Now I don't know Walter for beans, but was wondering what would happen or if there could be a layout with variations defined that would set the fader colors for both mcp and tcp for a selected track[s]... from reading the rtconfig it looks maybe possible but again I don't know Walter that well. Thoughts???

Also I still don't know how to change the color of the red small text in the arrange window that shows the rate setting... is there a way in the rtconfig? I did not find a way in the theme editor options.

oh Krap... I'm so sloppy! just found that a small error slipped in to the rtconfig.txt... the Pastel fader 11 was not working because I had put '....011' in the rtconfig instead of just '11'

OK well sorry and it's now fixed and the two rar's are uploaded with the correction... so if you want this get it again...

So a note to WynD... you might need to dbl chk the rtconfig that you are using also... just look for the tcp and mcp extra layouts entries for the p [pastel] series... then look at the ones for p11 and if you see the folder for them stated as 011, just remove the 0 and all will be OK...

again... sorry for my mistrake... but glad I caught it

As far as anything to do with Walter, other than the real basic stuff I have been doing with the faders, I really can't give you any advice on that.
I like your idea but that would take one of the really good Walter programmers out there to answer that one for you.

I appreciate that. I just wanted to make sure that any other pieces of or MODS that I was borrowing from got mentioned. It's always good to be respectful.

I did check and fix the extra 0 on your pastel fader. So we're all good there.

I have one last update that I have done for s1msun7. He was wanting the strip faders with a few extra colors.
I do now have that done and will be uploading the file he shortly.

Alas not from within WALTER, as far as I know. If you put set tcp.blablah and set mcp.blablah stuff into a single layout in walter it will just come up as a tcp as well as an mcp layout in Reaper's menus.

You can assign layouts to actions in the Layouts tab of the Layouts/Screensets window. If you assign say "tcp_red_fader" to action #1 and "mcp_red_fader" to action #2, then you can use these two to build a "Set tcp and mcp to red fader layout" custom action. With the 20 possible layout-actions you're good for combined switching of 10 tcp/mcp fader colors.

(It is basically possible to switch layouts via ReaScript and thus extend that number - provided the exact layout name is known, but only by using dreadful, deadly, evil track state chunk editing . I don't like sharing scripts using that method because they are able to corrupt a track.)

20 assignable layout actions aren't plenty at all. I have 3 different "styles" for my mixer - small, normal and wide - each of these can have one out of five fader colors - which already makes 15 layouts. Tcp has just a single "style" with the same 5 fader colors. I already need all 20 actions to pull off that tcp/mcp macro trick.
I find that this layout permutation flooding is one of WALTERs weakest points.

thanks for that gofer... you have always been way ahead of the game...

yes, I took a look at custom action method you mentioned and quickly realized with 16 pastel colors for my own faders, plus the other normal ones 20 slots [divided by 2] would not be worth the hassle...

I might give the walter extra layouts a try... I'm just a bit confused as to where those would go and what would have to preceed them in order for them to work as 'sub layouts'... i.e., there is no section in the layouts menu for something like 'both tcp and mcp'... you see what I'm saying?

to WynD also...

well I've been messing around with a mod of this mod [hahaha] a bit... kind of decided I don't care too much for the WT chrome look and have just gone and made everything darker... and found part of the way to alter that durn reddish hue on the transport read out window... [that was driving me nutz]

I so far have most of it done to my taste by altering png files...

I use my own set of custom icons which nobody but me would consider... there are by now an awful lot of them... but I get them to show in Imperial MOD by just having a huge Toolbar_icon folder...

also my monitor screens and resolutions are enough that I can have the tcp with a floating master and docked mcp as a track inspector with no drawing problems... nice for me...

well I'm rambing from too much photoshop work... hahaha

Perhaps a screen shot in a few days...

When I tried that my "both" layout came up as track layout and as mixer layout in the respective menus. Select it from the track layout menu it only changes tcp and selected from the mixer layout menu it only changes mcp. In other words, the "both" layout is handled by Reaper as if it was two separate layouts. I just tried again and no change.
As far as I can tell combined tcp/mcp layouts are not possible from within walter. But please do try yourself, maybe I overlooked something... would be awesome, I'd love to free up some layout actions for other stuff.

Thanks for trying that gofer... I think it is a good idea [concept] but don't think Walter supports it. I know you are 1000 times better at coding stuff than I am, so if you could not make it work, I don't have any hope..

But perhaps the concept of being able to do this with Walter code could be requested of the DEV's? Clearly doing it via the layout actions is a PITA workaround and not very useful.... it would be MUCH better right inside a theme's menus, eh?

Default what are the names and such for these plz?

I can't find the png for this:
[it is the mono button in the off state on the Master]

[IMG]http://img803.**************/img803/8079/monopngquestion.png[/IMG]

I would expect there would be something like mcp_mono_off but don't see it...

Now also I would like to know where in Walter the control for this font and color are found?

[IMG]http://img849.**************/img849/8792/transportfontquestion.png[/IMG]

I would like to change that red to a blue or even to a white to match the rest of what I have done.
Thanks for any help guys...

PS ...and one more plz:
On the rate knob on the main transport ... you know the little line that overlays the knob, and rotates to show the amount? what is that png or walter spec?
I'm using the big black knob and the line is a dark gray and very hard to see... I need it to be lighter

thanks again

Look for "mcp_mono.png" It should be in the main folder or in the Red fader (or Black) folder in the original WT theme. Off is that one, without the on state light "button_on.png" in the main folder.

Dark gray? Mine is white. Maybe I got it from Pyer's. Let me check.

Removing these two:

transport_playspeedbg_vert.png
transport_playspeedthumb_vert.png

Removes the line... and the color. Try those.

ah thanks... you got me close, but this is funny:

the png named mono is actually the lit up one.. with the gold border... the one I wanted was that but without the lit up border..

OK ready for the giggle? That one is called mcp_stereo.png... hahaha funny, no? no wonder I could find it looking for a logical name... like mono_off...

OK then as promised to WynD heres a screen shot but only of the normal layout... not with a floating mixer, but of course that works nicely as well...

NOTES: I decided for me a couple things...
1-I normally don't need a lot of extra layouts... so this is the main one I'd use... and can change the mcp and tcp colors and layouts as desired for meters, faders, etc. Mostly colors and faders and meters though..

2- mod'd lots of pngs for this to get the darkish but toned down look...

3-as you will obviously notice, I use my own set of icons that I love but that most people would not... hahaha...
OF couse it would work with whatever icons but all my FTB's are already set up with my own so it would be a prob for me to recreate them... If any fool wanted to use mine they would need an additional folder which I could provide...

Ok... here's the direct link to not clog up the form with a big image:

http://img692.**************/img692/7...scrrenshot.png

NOW.. a few questions yet to solve:

Look on the Transport read out window... and see the values for rate, bpm, etc. that are in a dark red font...
Where is the control for that font color????
I would really like to change it from that red to a matching blue!

Thanks much...

Oh and WynD... if you want this to mess with let me know and we can work out a way ... it's not on the stash at this time.

That does look interesting.
I am in no hurry for messing. My wife thinks I make enough of a mess all ready. :-)

I can wait for further progress.

I do have one silly question for you. I see your toolbar for your pastel faders . At least that is what I think it is.
How did you make that toolbar with the actual colors? I've made a simple toolbar but not really experimented much. Inquiring minds need to know.

oh the TB yes... ok let's talk about that:

I could send you my icons for it but they would be for my pastel color set of course...

so let's say you want to make your own.

first you might make a screen shot jpg of your own set of colors... you can do this in the color selector or whatever...

this is just to have an easy way to get the colors into Photoshop as swatches... via the eyedropper tool... right?

OK... then you need whatever icon template you want for toolbar icons... you can load any one of the toolbar icon png files to start... into PS of course

OK so then use that to define the size of the 3 'panels' in the icon...

and make three white panels... call them "basic" or whatever...

OK... now dupe that layer 16 times and name each one of the dupes like so 01, 02, etc... up to 16...
Make two more, one for Black and one for White

OK now it's easy to select each of those and use the blending options color overlay to color it to one of the 16 Pastel [or your own colors]...right?

OK now make 16 more layers, each with a text number on it... 1, 2, 3, etc... up to 16 and also the text WHT and BLK

Ok so I have this all in one PSD file...

So I make visible only the layer for say, color 01 and the text to lay over it...

now you save as a png file and give it a name [in a new folder first to be safe!] Actually I make a PS Action to save as .png to that folder, but I have to then change the name before running the action again so it won't overwrite the previous png... i.e., run the action, get the saved png file, like toolbar_color_00.png

rename that to _01 and set up to run the action for color 2... and so on...

I also have icons there for set to default color, and to open the color wheel for custom colors...

and you can see I have two sets of these icons... first is for selected tracks, second is for selected items...

I do like that toolbar! don't love the tedious rt clk colors menu!

Check out the rtconfig.txt of the theme

Code:
set trans.rate.color [173 37 37]
set trans.bpm.tap.color [173 37 37]
set trans.curtimesig.color [173 37 37]
set trans.bpm.edit.color [173 37 37]
These 3 digits represent RGB code.
