Default "Copy portions of items in time selection" seems to have broke again for me

Below is how it should work but for the love of any deity it mostly doesn't work for me, I had it working for a bit once and tried today and gone again, is there any other variable that I might have on?

[QUOTE=Mercado_Negro;368699]musicbynumbers,

yes, it's working as usual here with or without my macro. Here you can see it with my macro:

this is weird, just got it to work again after going to free item positioning mode and then back again.

The only other thing it might be is the actual menu version is broke and only the key command works.. will investigate further!

I don't get it to work ever .
Didn't even know that it should work like that... but now I want it, too . Are you doing a normal paste like CTRL+v?

Can you dumb down that project where it works for you and attach it, to see whether it works here as well? I'll try to break it, maybe that gives us a clue .

Ok, let's debug the bug that's buggering your bugged soul...

Just to make sure...

Does this happen at your end when using 'copy portions of items in time selection'?

No?

Mwahhhahaha Here it does!

Dudes, it must be a preference, really. I can do that just like you see in the vid, make a time selection with alt+drag over items and then run 'copy portions of items in time selection' then I just move the cursor to the beat and Ctrl+v (Items: Paste items/tracks).

You're so... mean

My paste places the left item right at the cursor. Have not yet tried systematically with prefs. Though, it also doesn't work with a fresh Reaper.ini. From what MBN says I'd think it's project specific.

thanks for your time guys, Just tried again and even with a few project tabs and fipm on and nothing pastes at edit cursor but looses gap.

Will look at prefs but it worked last time I needed it then stopped and now again for one project and not again in others.

It's insane!

Yeah, it's insane. I don't understand why it isn't working for you guys, it's always worked here. Actually, iirc, that was the first action I asked when I started using reaper

Here they are

bare in mind that not only is this a new computer but this is my general boot version of reaper which is just used for testing (before putting it on my audio boot) so it's near enough stock reaper and it still doesn't work for me.

the project is freshly created and has 3 empty midi items but copy portions still didn't work

it will probably work for you but at least a dev might be able to see them too and make sense of it all!

Has nothing to do with MIDI or audio, doesn't work on both, seems to depend on project (?) so it it's probably not prefs, neither project settings, smells like "random".

You made me cheer up for a moment, but it doesn't work with audio either here. Wheeeep

My project all evolve out of the same default template. I just tried with someone's problem project (different prob) and could copy audio items in there with that nifty offset. MIDI items not. Are you saying it works for you with MIDI items, Steindork?
In any case it's project specific.

It is not random. It has never ever failed here with audio items. Ever. I never tried/used it with midi items before and now I see it doesn't work with them: midi items do not keep their relative position here but audio items do.

Guys I think I got it....

Could you please try with a project with a timebase set to 'Time'?

musicbynumbers' project is set to 'Beats (position only)' and in that timebase it doesn't work for any item but if I change it to 'Time' it works for audio items.

Bingo! Thanks for being persistant, Mercado.

As soon as one of the item's timebase is time, offset paste works (only for audio).

Don't know if I like that. Makes the behavior difficult to predict if you are not sure about each item's timebase.
I think that
a) it should work for MIDI as well (maybe there are special conditions right now that make it work with MIDI?) Solved, see Steindork's post #21
b) it should work the same with either timebase setting
c) there should be separate paste commands (or separate copy commands), one with and one without that offset. So one has the option to do both, without checking the timebase settings.

Not got time to check it but the answer will do for me thanks!

But i agree, to keep it simple.. it should work for ALL item types regardless of timebase.

Thankgod we got to the bottom of that! Lol

Yes. Item timebase must be 'Time' (project timebase does nothing).

Yeah really, right now I need a MACRO just to keep anything.

And even this is broken because it assumes you want the track set to the project timebase.

This is driving me insane, my macro doesn't even work predictably because "copy" only works right with some mystic combination of track/item/project timebase settings.

Come on guys please, this is brutal.
