Default Howto edit a RPP file to exclude possible crash reason?

I post it here because it possibly has to do with a Reaper version following 2.53.
I've got a project file dates from 5th of October.
When i try to load it Reaper freezes while loading an exb file of the Proteus VX VSTi.
The next times i try to start Reaper Reaper ends itself after a few seconds (without freezing but also without any message).
Since i've got no problems with other projects which use ProteusVX in Reaper 2.99pre3 i want to try to strip the RPP file.
Can i just delete the according Track Section for the Proteus VSTi in the RPP file?
Or have i to delete the referencing Midi- and Bus-tracks for the Proteus VSTi too? Which was bad because i need the Midi tracks...
And basically: Is there an easier method to strip down a project which can't be loaded otherwise?

I'd start by trying the steps in this post:

If you do need to try editing the rpp, back it up first, then you should be able to add comment marks around blocks to disable them like this:

this line gets read
this line too
/*
this line gets ignored
this one's ignored too
*/
this line gets read

Aaah! Thanks! That will help a lot. Especially to know how to comment out the lines and

Commonly caused by a buggy plugin. Open Reaper dry, then open the problem project while holding down shift and control...

The reason for crashing respectively closing of Reaper has been different sample rates. Don't know which in detail.
Involved are Reaper, the soundcard EMU 0404 and ProteusVX.
Setting them all to the same it all works like a charm.

Thanks schwa
