I've got a couple of sites for my songs like reverbnation,
http://www.reverbnation.com/pauldouglas

but is there a good free UK based song hosting site?

Reverbnation is excellent BTW.If you want to host your songs the streaming quality blows away Myspace etc and I like the layout and I use their random radio player a lot. Some great stuff on there

Sheppola, same here! I find working with MySpace is like fingernails on a blackboard!

I have been self-hosting with my plusnet freebie webspace, but that has obvious bandwith issues (in the unlikely event that more than 2 of my friends want to grab a track at the same time).

Have just started putting stuff up on Garageband.com (not UK-based, obviously). I still find that quite clanky.

Anyone have any opinions on garageband vs reverbnation vs anything-else-they-prefer?

Reverbnation is,"Top dog" for me and also ,

http://www.ourstage.com/fanclub/pauldougsheppard

but they are a different format inasmuch as you can enter your songs in competition but good sound quality.

I've put a couple or 3 songs on here,

http://www.unsigned.co.uk/

just for the hell of it but RN is the best IMHO

Hah, I spent ages trying to get your RN site to work with firefox/flashblock/noscript/popupblocker.

In the end I must have turned the volume up a bit trying to hear anything because when got all the ducks in a line "Kill the Blues" didn't half make me jump.

Thumping, man

Default The End Of Live Music In The UK?

If you care about live music in the UK, sign the petition below.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/NoNoiseControl/

Or, if you're in a band, carry an extra long mains extension so you can bypass these stupid devices. Not that I'd ever do that.

I've seen these things go fully into the red from a snare hit.

Pete

Welcome aboard.
1st thing I would say is get a Reverbnation Page(free),
Way better streaming quality than soundclick(See my sig) and of course more promotion for your band.

Also most people on here also get a free Stashbox account,
http://stashbox.org/

For posting test mixes etc.

Hi Gaz

I'm from round your neck of the woods, well Harrow to be precise. I was once a dispatch rider based at Heathrow. I'm down in sunny Bournymouf now though, and I don't miss the smoke at all

Velkom to the forum, it's a pretty cool place to hang out and there is much knowledge you can pick up here in the way of recording tips and tricks.

Pull up a chair, grab a virtual pint and make yourself at home

Welcome, I just checked out your link and see you’re from Stanwell. I used to live in nearby Ashford, Middx. Also, when I came down south in the late 1970’s, one of the first bands I played for was based in Stanwell.

Default Gawd Bless BBC4

I have recently discovered the delights of iPlayer and d/l/d the Peter Green documentary and watched it tonight.

There is, without doubt, much to disparage about our national culture at this particular time but this completely fantastic (flawed yes, but still fantastic) doc makes some significant reparation for the tidal wave of unacceptability that is sadly the norm.

Peter Green has been, off and on, my rock & roll touchstone since my older sister's then boyfriend turned me on to Peter Green's FM 27 or so years ago.

I've heard a lot about the Peter Green documentary from musician friends and I must get to see it.

I suppose I'll have to download iPlayer again. I had it a while back but it annoyed me because I couldn't stop it being in my System Tray at start up, so I uninstalled it.

Hi there, Bristol here...
Currently in a recording band - was using Sonar, now getting very much into Reaper, so that's all good.
First track fully recorded with Reaper = "Pipes and Wires" and can be found on here:
http://www.myspace.com/dancingforarchitecture
or here:
http://www.reverbnation.com/dancingforarchitecture
We're very Ambient/Soundtrack-esque, at the moment at least!
Not looking at live stuff really at the moment, to be honest it would be logistically rather complicated!!

only just noticed this thread.

I'm down in Devon, run a studio at Lewdown with Reaper fulltime now.

I thought *I* was the only reaperer in the village!

Kind regards

Default The Ashes (lounge-ish)

108 for one at lunch on the first day of the last test with all to play for.

Would have taken that this morning when I woke up.

Damn! I would have taken that at the start of summer come to that.

Did anyone see Jeff Beck on the Jools Holland show in the UK. I found a clip on Youtube below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0FT7FO5Xe8

I was gobsmacked. And quite moved, which is unusual for a thick Northerner like me.

Greetings, UK folks - I'm Dave from Macclesfield. Been playing sax for 37 years (I need to change the reed now) - play guitar, bass, flute, keyboards and the Missus might just kill me any day soon. ;-)

Default Hey!

Hi, Dylan here. I just joined the Reaper forums. I'm still an "Evaluation" user and am new to this as I only just got a worthy computer to record with a week or so ago.

I live in Northants, East Midlands and am currently a solo musician working on trying to do an E.P.

Just dropped by to say hey all.

Hi there!

+1 in Leicester

Ready to collaborate as singer/guitarist/keys/producer (rather recording than on stage due to my bands' commitments).

Something about me (that is my latest yelling):

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=126554

If anyone is interested in contributing to an album (planned live recording coming fall/winter in Midlands):

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=124627

And does anybody know where I could find 10 mm plywood? B&Q do only 9 or 12... Also -- if anyone has spare mineral wool 50 or 100 mm thick or 6 mm plywood I'd be happy to help you to clean up your garage

All the best
George

Hi Guys. I'm Brian, from Derby - close enough to Leicester before the beer goes flat!!

I'm retired from the IT rat race and after 20+ years in a band I'm now having a go at doing some live mixing for local bands. I "found" Reaper and I've bought a copy. Currently not got a clue what to do apart from start it I got Independence Free drums working but that's about all - that will change hopefully(proto-newb??). The overall tone of the Reaper forum is incredibly helpful. I hope I can find local help if and when I need it, maybe even drive over to pubs and actually talk to you guys!!

All the best to everyone.

Brian

Default Click track.

Hi guys

I have a couple of questions one of you guys might be able to help with.

I have some "professional" backing tracks that a friend of mine wants to use in his show. The tracks are wav files. When these tracks kick off the intro click track blares out of the PA. Is there any way to isolate the click track so it can be routed to a monitor instead?

Thanks

Hi all !!
Well this seems to be a fairly spasmodic/erratic bi annual sticky; so just my kind of glue !
I'm Fred from the New Forest, Hampshire (well it's not that new, and there aren't that many trees ; but it is some ancient English kings' hunting estate ; anyway, I digress...). I play guitar (badly) and keys (worse), and record my noise on a Mac Book Pro (OS 10.10.2), and a Desktop PC (Win 7 Pro 64), using Reaper DAW.
Yes I am 'ambiOSdextrous', but struggle sometimes when it gets to more than half a dozen tracks, or a couple of pints. I have my next session with the Psychiatrist in a couple of weeks !
I came to Reaper from Pro Tools (8/9). When Avid took over from Digidesign, I switched to Cubase for a while but was never really happy. Then I discovered Reaper, and so far have not looked back !!
So see you guys soon I hope...
Kind regards,
Fred
