Default Stop Playback at end of Project preference...

Let's say I have a delay on a track.

If Stop Playback at the end of Project is selected in the preferences, playback will stop with the end of the longest/latest-sounding track.

I tried this today and when it stopped and the cursor jumped back to the starting point, the delay sound actually jumped to the volume of the original setting ( I had a volume automation fade on it)

If I deselect this in the preferences all is well - except that it will keep going as long as the computer is running...

So is there any other way to get it to play to say 4 or so measures after the end of the last sound so delays will fade out naturally?

Or do I just have to put a dummy clip in somewhere that goes that far past the end?

You've probably answered your own question.

I've always used the lazy (but easily adjusted) method of just extending the length of the item by the required amount (of silence) at the end and if necessary using an envelope. But maybe someone will offer you a better solution.

On edit: What's nice about this method is that you can see what's going on. Simple. Not a setting somewhere, so that, when you come back to it weeks later you don't wonder what the heck's going on!

But if you wish you can try tinkering with the Run FX for nnnnn ms after stopping option in Prefs (Audio Playback) but I prefer the technique outlined above.

Or drag a time selection and insert empty item at the end.

What about just putting a marker at the end?

I don't think the marker would move him back to the start.

Well, that's OK though.

I'll try putting an "end of song" marker in and see what happens.

Nope. doesn't work. Still considers the end of the last media item the end of the project.

I guess I'll just drag stuff as far as the audio is sounding.

Or add an empty media item to extend it. Set time selection, Insert / empty media item.
